Where would you move to in my situation?

I think the craziest thing I ever saw on the road was my own experience. I was driving to Dallas during an ice storm at night and everything seemed ok in my little RWD sports car. They had salted all of those short overpasses that cover the ditches. I hit one of those things near Dallas that I guess had not been salted and my car fishtailed completely sideways. I corrected and spun back the other way but there was suddenly a car right in front of me at a dead stop. Corrected the other way and literally missed them by inches, doing a full spin. I hit a dry patch shortly after and my tires caught and straightened me out. There were at least 10 cars in the ditches off the side of the freeway on either side. People talk about slow motion in high stress situations, and I definitely experienced it then.
Oh, if you wanna talk about the closest call I've ever had personally, that's probably back when I delivered furniture. I was on a two way street, a main road, going about 35 mph. I crested a hill and there was a red light, with 4 cars stopped in front of me. I hit the brakes and quickly realized I was on black ice. There was a car coming in the oncoming lane, so I couldn't go there. I let off the brakes and turned the wheel slightly to the right, up over the curb, then back to the left to straighten out, and shot up between the 4 cars on my left and the guard rail on my right (through a couple inches of snow) with maybe 6 inches on either side of my truck. Once I was past the final car I turned back onto the road and just kept going. My helper didn't say a word for about 15 minutes. Finally I said, "You've been unusually quiet." He said, "If I tried to talk I would've thrown up." lol

Lol, I really don't know how you guys do it with all the craziness on the road. Mad respect brother.

Happy for you man. Did you end up in Hilo or Kona or one of the smaller areas? I loved the Big Island but have only been to Hilo and Kona. I wish we had explored more the last time we were there.
I was stationed in Oahu and always preferred the big island. If I was gonna move to Hawaii, thats where Id go. Oahu is too metro

So, I just got full approval to work remotely, which means I can pretty much go anywhere. I'm trying to decide where to go. I'd love to hear suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Kids are grown and out of the house. Or will be after this move! I would prefer to get a little bit of land (1-10 acres). We're tired of the cold and snow here in the mountains in California, so we'd like somewhere warmer if possible. I'm from Texas and my wife is from Florida, but we could go anywhere.

After we sell this house in California, we're going to have about 300-400K to put directly into a property. We're leaning towards Florida but not sure about what part. She is from the Miami area and does not want to go back there.
Would you like to be in a more populated area or less populated. For that amount of money you could probably get good anount of land in NM, West Texas or Arizona

First, thank you for your service man. I agree about Oahu, nice but I probably wouldn't move there. I liked Kauai and Maui a lot too. The ridiculous hotel we stayed in on Maui contributed massively to the enjoyment.

Oahu is a great party town. Waikiki is fun because you have a mix of military, college, and tourists there. Always interesting. Big island is the only other island Ive been, and I thought it was a far nore authentic island atmosphere. I used to tell people that Kona is basically what they are trying to recreate for tourists in Waikiki

That's the difficult part. My wife needs human contact in a way that I don't so there has to be people around. I would be happy with acreage with no one around, but she wouldn't. She's compromised enough that if they are just waving in the distance, it's fine. Years ago, I did live in total isolation for a while, and I'll admit that it does get to you after some time. No contact starts to mess with your head.

Maybe a nice rural suburbs. Up here in WNY, we have a lot rural towns with good sized populations and commerce. Maybe something like that where you can get the best of both worlds

You're talking western NY? Could you send me some pics or maybe just point me to a town you'd recommend that I can look up myself? I appreciate the feedback.

Hahaha...Depends on how much you hate people.

However Id say a place like Albuquerque, or some of the cities in Arizona you could probably find similar towns to what we have in Rochester. Ive heard Scottsdale is very nice

Ive been in Texas for 30 years but I think North Carolina offers almost everything
Nice climate, beaches, mountains, rural or urban……great mix
