Which Are You And Why

Can I just pick both lines? I'm of the opinion that unless the rest of the team is incompetent, if you have 2 great lines then you're a playoff team.

Defense is more about technique, offense is more about athleticism. Depends on how the offense is run. As I've grown older I've come to appreciate Marty Schottenheimer's style of offense. Run the ball, use a fullback and just break the will of the defense. Then throw over the top when the defense is stacking the box. I like a really well balanced offense.

Unfortunately, the league tends to get coaches that favor passing or running instead of balance. Then one coach has success and the rest follow suit. We had the wildcat which was an interesting formation, but then coaches started to use it too much without the right personnel or the ability to pass the ball. And Sparano ran his way out of the league as a playcaller by trying to run too much. I like Sean Payton's offense, but he gets in trouble when they are too pass happy and teams start to take away the checkdown and the long ball.

So it's still offense for me. There's so many more options with what an offense can do schematically and stylistically. But, I often get aggravated with what I see.

Mine is split - I love watching a physical, dominant offensive line smash people but I also love to watch good cornerback play - incredible athletes - to be able to stay with the breed of WRs that are in the league today is nothing short of incredible.

Offense or defense. Forget about this team as it stands. Which side of the ball do you favor.

I love defense, but offense is so entertaining. Maybe why I like building the offensive line and seeing it blow holes for the running game and protecting the QB for the passing game.

How about you?

I like the offense.

The scintillating forward pass deep to a fleet receiver. The runner who find daylights and run along the sidelines as we cheer.

The offense is a lot like a taco. It has the filling: the QB, the runner, the TEs and receivers.
The O-line . . . call it the taco shell. It half to be hard against the defenders but brittle enough that if needed, it can break and move to accomodate the runner.

The defense on the other snacking hand, is the crunch. Nothing like a defender sacking the QB or dropping the runner behind the line of scrimage. This year the defense will be a wonder to behold: Never half such an unproven defense make a debut. Mens and womans this will be a terrible defense. Don't listen to jerra that this defense will be better than last year's. This year's defense will be hoRrible with a capital R. It will be something to watch.
Hopefully, the fillings of the taco (QB, receivers, runners) will be able to stay on the field longer and keep this awful defense on the bench.

That is how I, a proud son of the hills of Farmers Branch, see it.
Now i will go eat a samwich and watch "Cops Reloaded" because they keep arresting bad peoples.

You will never lose a game if the other offense doesnt score. The defense has the majority of say in how that goes.
For me it's all about defensive football . Thus, it's been a rough few yrs watching my team.

Can't really say I'm either. I believe that Offense and Defense work together to win. If you don't have that, then winning a championship is much, much more difficult.

That's definitely true. But put me in the camp that prefers watching a suffocating defense. Nothing better than a good 7-3 final score.

And, while I was joking above, that Bears team a few years back that won games on takeaways and ST scores was pretty fun to watch. :)

Please say more. I like your posts and responses.

OK, grew up watching Bob Lilly my 1st sports hero, from the time I started pop warner all the way into college played defense. I liked hitting people more than getting hit, there was something that was prime evil about playing defense. I could go from a very nice guy off the field into a heartless madman on the field. I would knock the snot out of a guy and then stand over him hollering all kinds of profanity at him, I would have refs hollering at me warning me about the language. I loved it. LOL

Offense.

The rules just don't let teams defend very well unless you have a reputation for good defense and then you will get every call to go your way.

In today's NFL you put up points, make teams one dimensional by having to throw, and just get after the passer to try and create turnovers.

I agree. I think this discussion is more a question of what style of Football do you prefer? Do you prefer, wide open, down field passing or do you prefer Field Postion, ball controlled Offense with a very strong Defense?

Now, you can have a dominating Defense and still use a wide open offense but I don't believe that it helps your defense. IMO, you tend to wear your defense out with that style of Offensive play but that's just my own opinion.

Although the rules lean more towards having a stellar offense I believe I would rather have our team with a vice grip defense. Nothing like watching your opponent go 3 and out 3 and out 3 and out, fumble interception. It just takes the life right out of them. I.e. 2000 Ravens

I like a punishing ball control, clock eating, chain moving run game.
Along with a stingy bend-but-don't-break defense.

That way, after you take several minutes off the clock and score, the other team gets impatient with their offense, .. knowing that if they punt they may not see the ball again for 1/2 a quarter or more.

They normally take stupid chances, knowing that they can't afford to fall behind by two scores and become one dimensional.

Plus, once they figure out that they can't stop your run game, it breaks them down motivationally, .. it breaks their spirit.

Defense, Love watching the Secondary, There is nothing more exciting than witnessing a pick 6

I guess that I would have to day offense. I played all the positions on the oline except center all through my younger years. I coached the OL later on and I love great oline play. I played some DT and NT some, but I never cared for it as much. It is a great feeling to punish the defense and run the ball right down their throats.
