Aikman had a great arm. I'll never forget that pass he threw to Irvin at the goal line in the 92' NFC championship game.

I have been trying to look it up but can't find it, but didn't Randall have the record in the QB challenge for a long time. Something like 80+ yards.

teammates use to say Troy would split some of the skin between their fingers he threw so hard sometimes (the web part)

So I would say Aikman would be on that list for the Cowboys

No mention of Chad Hutchinson?

Guy sucked, but he had a cannon. I'm still waiting on Bruce Coslet to get him to the Pro Bowl. :D

Someone really ought to start a thread about the "Myths of Troy Aikman".

Troy had a great arm. It wasn't Favre's or Elway's, but he could sling it with the best of them.

Of all the QBs I saw: Staubach, White, Pelluer, Aikman, Carter, Testeverde, Bledsoe, and Romo...I'd have to say Aikman's was the best.

I won't count guys that weren't considered starters.

I had a former Commander offensive player working for me (imagine the discussions!!!) and he said that Troy totally changed the game - before that point 8 yard outs were common, but Troy (because of his ridiculous arm strength) could throw a 12 yard out...this pattern created great difficulty for DB's since other QB's couldn't throw it...

so, from a Commander who did not (obviously) care for Troy, he sure did respect his arm strength, and he considered it elite...

That's true. The skinny post...the 12 yard out...Aikman could zip them in when needed.

I think too many on here have forgotten how great (yes, great) Aikman was. He made the game look easy.

Troy's timing and accuracy were unbelievable. As far as pure zip, throwing out those assets I mentioned, it's hard to bet against Ryan Leaf.

I'm not sure if this is correct, but I seem to recall a certain Gary Hogeboom being deemed notorious for throwing the ball too fast for receivers to catch.
The Cowboys' receivers were the only ones who couldn't catch Hogeboom's passes. The other team's d-backs (and d-linemen) didn't have any problems catching them:laugh2:

It would probably Aikman, he threw it extremely hard and also had an incredibly tight spiral. There were alot of reports of him splitting WR's fingers etc etc. Irvin commented on this one TC.

I also remember reading he threw a baseball well into the mid 90's.

It's hard to count guys that played so little for us.

Craig Morton, before he ripped up his shoulder, could really hum the ball. He split the webbing between Bob Hayes' fingers with a pass in the '60s.
Aikman split Alvin Harper's webbing also.

Aikman had zip maybe,.....but he couldn't throw the deepball to save his life! That was the only throw he couldn't make...it drove me nuts!

Optional Question #1: Is there such a thing as a QB who throws too hard to his own receivers?

I don't know, but I do know in Madden the announcers will get on to me for throwing it as hard as I can on just about every throw.

Yeah, that was basically the only knock on him (well, that and being unable to throw a wet football). I'll take the three championships and overlook it.

Why try to start a debate between Eagles/Cowboys?

PT was not trying to engage anything. All he asked was which Cowboy QB we thought thew the hardest.

Thanks:)

Great quarterback...kind of confused why we pushed him aside in favor of whoever we started.

How fast does Brett Favre throw the football and what is his fastest speed?

Answer ...

The fastest baseball ever thrown is like 103-105. (somewhere in that range). To think that any man could throw a football which is less aerodynamic, larger, and heavier 110 miles an hour is just insane. I've heard that favre has thrown a football around 70-75 mph though.

This is the first measurement I've found relevant to football speed.
