Which QBs would you rather have instead of Tony Romo?

Let's go ahead and declare Tony Romo the best active quarterback without an NFL playoff win. (Honorable mentions: Jay Cutler and Matt Ryan.)

Of course, that's kind of like being the prettiest girl without a prom date. But the list of quarterbacks I'd rather have under center for the 2009 season is pretty short.

Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Ben Roethlisberger -- winners of six of the last eight Super Bowls -- form the elite group. Romo is somewhere on the second tier. I'd take Phillip Rivers, Kurt Warner and Donovan McNabb over him. And that's it, although a lot of New Yorkers would argue for Eli Manning. (UPDATE: Forgot about Drew Brees. I'm on the fence about him.)

Romo has a long way to go to live up to the lofty Cowboys quarterbacking standards set by Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman. But there are about 25 teams that would be thrilled to have him.

Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and probably Ben Roethlisberger right now. I'd consider a couple of others, Matt Ryan, for example.

Don't understand Warner or McNabb at all, though.

There are some very good QB's out there but I'm happy to have Romo as ours.

We had this discussion/debate when Cutler was being auctioned off. A few resident fanatics voted "nobody," but five QBs would seem to be a sensible answer.

Romo is statistically superior to Brady over the same period of time.

Romo is Manning's equal as well, and Manning didn't win a playoff game for like 5 years....

Big Ben... look how many times he throws per game... He won those super bowls?

McNabb and Rivers? I could see Rivers as an alternate, but McNabb get the F out of here..

So so true. This is still a QB dominated league.

Who would I rather have than Romo? Or who do I think is a better QB?

Philip Rivers is the only guy I would rather have at this point since he is still young and has a great future ahead of him. I think Manning and Brady are better QBs but they are on the other side of 30.

Drew Brees is close but I don't see a whole lot of difference between him and Romo so I would rather stick with Romo at this point. Brees is better at some things that Tony but Romo is better than Brees at other things, like making plays on the move, making something out of nothing, etc. Brees is a better pocket passer and turns the ball over less but isn't a big play guy like Romo is. If we had Brees instead of Romo to begin with then I would stick with Brees.

Roethlisberger is overrated IMO. Not to say that he isn't a very good QB but I don't think he is a top-5 guy.

Matt Ryan looks like he might have the goods but we need to see if he can pick up this year where he left off last season.

Right now McNabb is not as good as Romo plus he is 32 so there is no way I would take him over Tony.

Kurt Warner is only as good as his WRs. When he hasn't had top WRs he hasn't looked very good. Sometimes even when he has had them he hasn't looked good. Plus he is 37 so count him out.

I wanted Rivers when the Chargers were trying to figure out which QB to keep and wish we would have traded for him then. The guy has amazing talent but he would probably have struggled behind our O-Line. People underestimate Romo's mobility and how he has made our O-Line look good. Other QBs would not have fared as well with our lack of protection and in our scheme.

Nobody.

Romos our guy. I wouldn't take anyone elses guy over our own.

Especially when there is no reason to.

Id keep Tony...the obvious choices would be P Manning and Brady but with the way O line protects QBs around here Manning and Brady would have very short careers......

plus I believe Romo will take us to a SB and win it ......I think we as fans and the media are unrealistic in our expectations over our QBs and superstars ,while giving the normal guys on the team as a whole a pass.....give him time and he will lead us to the promise land

Rivers over Romo??? Not a chance! I still don't see why everybody thinks he's that good. He was good in college, but his consistency in the NFL is suspect.

thats not entirely accurate .....Brees is a turnover machine as well.....

I bash ROMO ALOT but I said I would give him one more year to prove himself. There is no question He can play at a high level, He just needs to show that clutch killer instinct.

So with that said I wouldnt take any qb over Romo..Even though I think there are several Qbs better then him.

Rivers is a darn good QB. I really like him coming out of College.

But MAN he is so overrated at this level..

People even have him top 5.

The only way anyone would take Rivers over Romo if you have watched both of them play is if you absolutely HATE Tony Romo.

Rivers is a straight up G! He made a statement to me when he played with a torn ACL at a high level. Not to mention his accuracy and decision making is superb. I'd take Rivers for Romo straight up.
