That's the problem with being a fan. We know the big names and think we need all of them. Yet here is Keith Brooking and all he has brought is exactly what we felt Lewis would bring. For one fifth the price Lewis would have commanded. Maybe less. Call it whatever you want. I call that good management.
Exactly. Just like any other NFL team, the Cowboys must address its roster needs with the best available starters and backups, which both fits its team philosophy and salary cap structure.

I have always been an opponent of the salary cap and couldn't care less how much anyone reading this wishes to recite how much it improves league competition. All I care about is the Dallas Cowboys. Hopefully, that will temper some of the possible responses. Maybe not. ;)

However, the NFL today is what it is now. A franchise cannot develop a very good roster without abiding by a reliable and sensible salary cap policy. Teams such as the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles developed theirs early on. Over this past decade, the Dallas Cowboys have as well.

Essentially, that is what escapes us as fans sometimes. During the draft, we believe that Brand Name X player is 'The One'. Or we think that each name which KFFL.com publishes on its transaction wire can be 'The Man'. Or we contemplate how this or that player on another roster can be finagled from another team.

The truth of the matter is, it's not an easy process. Tons of evaluation are made before acquiring players. It's not done on just a whim. Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones and their staff have developed their process to be one of the best in the league.

Not all of the choices made will appeal to every fan. Case in point: me. There are posters who can either remember or research via the forum archives how much I despised the acquisition of Terrell Owens YEARS before the idea was ever conceived by the Cowboys' front office. Ex-Dallas Morning News forum posters can attest to my stance YEARS before even that :) , but the front office thought differently. They saw a team need, attempted to fill it and succeeded in making it happen.

As a fan, that's all that anyone can hope their team's front office can do and they have done so. This team has very good players and it's because of them. Yes, credit should also be given to Bill Parcells for addressing earlier acquisitions or for helping develop the basic guiding structure for how it is done, but he is gone, people. He has been for years. It's long since past giving proper credit where credit is due.

One last comment to those reading this who continually believe that every player is a gimme:

This --> :madden: <-- is a very appropriate smiley for many what ifs. The National Football League is not a video game. Think about how you're attempting to fix a square peg into a round hole sometimes. Please. I mean really. P-l-e-a-s-e !

This team is finally doing well because the Players are leading which is the only scenario were Jerry has ever won. That usually backfires over time it takes a rarely strong minded team to accomplish. We will soon find out if the character on this team can take Dallas out of mediocrity this season.

I agree with your posts but IMhO they would have been much more strong minded and accomplished without hints of backhanded comments which tend to make one look weak and wrong whether they are or not.

Peace

I have too much fun with the backhanded comments to ever totally leave them behind. Some people set themselves up for them.

I've always had a helluva hard time accepting that persons find certain unpalatable behavior towards and at the expense of other individuals reasonable...maybe it's just me.

I grew up with a group of guys who took great delight in giving each other gas. They were good at it. Everything about you was mocked non stop and no one ever took offense because we all had so much fun laughing. A group of girls in my hometown called our group "the entertainment committee." One girl told me that after we graduated and moved away things weren't as much fun in our hometown. Instead of guys inventing fun, all they did was drink and do drugs and find ways to be angry. It went from a laid back bunch of people who enjoyed each other to the mistrust and anger of the drug culture. It culminated in a murder where I knew and grew up not only with the victim, but with the killer as well.

I guess what I am saying is that all types of humor keep us loose. You can call it unpalatable and that is your right. I don't have to agree.

When I take a job at an idea it is exactly that, a jab at the idea, not the person who had the idea. Some ideas are simply goofy. We all have them. What's the point of humor if not to point that out?

My apologies to those who do not like my style, but it has been my schtick since the first day I wandered into the DMN forums the day Emmitt broke the rushing record. I haven't changed one bit in all those years and I don't feel the need to change now.

The day I take anything you post seriously will be a day I am being prescribed psychotropic mind altering drugs.

This is a bunch of drivel that is so misinformed it is laughable. Want a very easy bit of evidence? Jerry Jones did not draft Michael Irvin. Michael was drafted in 1988 and played under Tom Landry and Tex Schramm. Jerry bought the team in 1989.

That is what I mean exactly. Your thoughts have no basis in fact whatsoever and are driven by emotions. Bad driver.

When is the Super Bowl being stripped away again?

the point was get michael irvin the way we got him the first time ....duh....i guess you avoid the truth when presented, jerry is a joke and my friend you are not a good poster if you believe otherwise....sorry....

Jerry Jones may not be a joke to the players, but they find some of his quirks funny

like how he roams around the practice field, talking to different players

jerry gets caught on an idea and runs with it...wont stop until he gets it...another michael irvin, got an idea for you jerry, find one the same way you got the first one...IN THE DRAFT...
Jerry Jones did not draft Michael Irvin. Your first statement said he did. It's only in your following comment when you stated the word "we" as in the Dallas Cowboys.

DallasEast, this guys name (STSINAZ) is on a very short list I keep by my computer that are users that have lost all credibility with me, based on their posts in the past.

PhoenixTalon is another. Poser and pretender.

Most posters I don't even care enough about their posts to remember to go to that trouble, but with some I just have to move on.

Give it up man, it's not worth it.

Okay have it your way, just merely an observation and a suggestion trying to help people comprehend the jest of what they are saying.

When many glance through a post then see accusational and demeaning schtick it's alot less likely that the real meaning of the post gets considered or even read atall.

I must have mistook that your mental compass should become morally adaptable as the consummate example, since you are afterall the liable explination.

If all people do is glance through my posts because they don't like the way I say stuff that is their business. I have no intention of letting that bother me in the least. I prefer that the normal reactions I get anyway.

great post Hos:top notch

For the record: I don't have a problem with ANYTHING JJ does with the organization. I just would like to see him hire a real GM and take a step back. It won't happen, which is too bad because the sky would be the limit.
