Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt couldn't help but jab at the preseason prognosticators who projected the Cowboys as the NFC's Super Bowl representative.

Recalling Arizona's 30-24 win against Dallas on Oct. 12, Whisenhunt referred to the Cowboys as a "Super Bowl team."

Many preseason projectors (including this author) were high on Dallas at the season's start. When the teams met in Week 6, the Cardinals (then 3-2) didn't look like much of a threat.

But Sean Morey blocked a Cowboys punt in overtime that the Cardinals recovered in the end zone for a game-winning touchdown.

"It was a big game for us," Whisenhunt said. "It gave us confidence against a team that a lot of people thought was very good.

"There was a lot of talk about them in the preseason and how good they were and how they could go to the Super Bowl. That was a big game for us."

And while the Cardinals used the win as a springboard to their first NFC title, the game heightened the Cowboys' fall from grace.

Dallas QB Tony Romo broke his pinkie finger in that game, which forced him out of the next three games.

If Tony doesn't break his pinky, we win that game and we're in the playoffs.

That's how the cookie crumbles.

Tony had plenty of opportunities to win that game before it ever got to that point.

They looked like Zombies the entire game until the thought of losing finally popped into their brains.

That game, like the 1st Washington game, was just a complete lack of Focus by our team.

So, you're saying that if he doesn't break his pinky, they still likely wouldn't win?

Or are you saying something totally irrelevant to my post? Cause it looks like it. ;)

If Tony doesn't break his finger, we still lose that game BUT we win the Rams game the following week & that's all we'd need to get that Final Playoff spot.

We were playing like complete crap the entire game. We were lucky to tie the game. Even without the bronken pinkie Romo wasnt doing anything. I recall A terrible Throw to a covered miles Austin in the flats that got Intercepted.

Arizona just wanted it more.

He broke his pinky on the first play of overtime. The previous two drives he'd driven the team with ease down the field to tie the game up. He was in the 'zone.'

It's simply an answer we'll never know.

But for me, that game clearly illustrated Dallas' "just show up and win" mentality that cost them more than once last season.

Well to be fair, Barber made a sorta big play that WAS one of those drives.

Nevertheless, you could be right. I think our offense, more times than not, was pretty clutch at the end of games when they needed to be.

Can someone explain to me how this is a slight or poke at the Cowboys?

He's simply stating a fact, the Cowboys were a preseason SB fav and our win over them was big for confidence.

Why is it that everything single thing said about the boys that can be twisted into a negative, IS and then use to rub more **** in the Cowboy fans face?

If we had just stopped them on that 3rd and 18 give up screen pass, there would have never been OT. And McBriar wouldnt have been hurt either.

That was the turning point play of the yr IMO.

That's how I read it as well. He wasn't slamming the Cowboys. Just pointing out a time in their season where they felt they were real contenders. And it makes total sense.

All very true. We were caviler about that game.

But I remember the tremendous momentum we had in our improbable comeback. The Cards were reeling and in actual fact would have little chance to stop us in OT had Romo not broke his finger.

But as you said, we'll never know for sure.

Great ST's play that day.

While we played lackadaiscally most of the afternoon and Romo's injury was a true factor late, it was the surrendering of 12 points to the Cardinals' special teams which was the determining factor of the game.

I still go back to that 3rd and 18 screen pass...we were dominating them defensively till that point and they were doing a give up play basically. They ended up scoring a TD on that drive.

Nick Folk also unusually missed a FG that could have prevented OT.

He's one of the few guys that should be 100% absolved of anything. He;s been money since he's been here. Even the bad kickoffs we're finding out arnt really his fault, it was the fault of a stupid special teams coach who basically said "I know you could get more of a running start and kick it a mile, but we want to directional kick no matter what"
