Whisenhunt recalls '08 Cowboys as 'Super Bowl team'

I agree. I was kinda shocked he missed it.

He's definitely taken for granted by some. 7 missed fg's in 2yrs, and 3 of those were 50+. And he's actually 4/7 in his career from 50+.

That Arz miss was one of only two he missed all yr.

This kid was a tremendous steal.

I still go back to that 3rd and 18 screen pass...we were dominating them defensively till that point and they were doing a give up play basically. They ended up scoring a TD on that drive.
I could agree with that if we hadn't surrendered points because of special teams miscues.

Tackle Arrington and you give your team a chance to erase six points from the board.

Prevent the blocked punt, the defense has a chance to get the ball back to your offense and pull out the win.

The 3rd and long play was a true factor, but Arizona still had first execute seven more plays to get the ball into the endzone for that one play to finally become a factor. On the other hand, they scored 12 points the easy way through two individual plays because of inept special teams play on our part.

I'm SO glad Coach Read is gone. It's a real positive step in the right direction for this team to have taken.

If Tony doesn't break his pinky, we win that game and we're in the playoffs.

That's how the cookie crumbles.

I don't know if Dallas wins that game but they probably wouldn't have lost to the Rams.

Any event, even if Dallas would have gotten to the playoffs it would have been a short stay.

Our defense sucked against the rams. We probably wouldn't have been blown out by the rams, but I'm not so confident we would have won that game.

I could've sworn Nick Folk was good on the FG and that's why it went into OT. I remember thinking that if he had missed it, we wouldn't have gone into OT where we lost anyway; and he wouldn't have lost Romo and McBriar. Maybe my memory is cloudy.

As far as Whisenhunt, without hearing his tone, it's hard to say if he was taking a dig at the Cowboys/media prognosticators or just making a comment.

.

He did make that one, it was from 52.

He missed one earlier in the game. I think in the first half.

OK. Now I remember. What an odd ending to an odd game in an odd season.

I think the entire team pretty much conceded before the game because they knew they didn't stand a snowballs chance with Brad.

People still making excuses about the 2008 Dallas Cowboys :bang2: .

Not sure why people don't understand these guys were medicore at best.

I think the team letdown a little because of Romo's injury, but if what you said above was true they'd have got spanked by Tampa the next week too.

They took the game lightly and the coaches had the team unprepared to play, thats why they lost.

That was the week Super Phillips came to the rescue.

Thinking back on this time period, it truly is amazing (1) how terrible Brian Stewart was at calling plays, and (2) how much Brad Johnson sucked. Off the charts suckage.

Can someone explain to me how this is a slight or poke at the Cowboys?

He's simply stating a fact, the Cowboys were a preseason SB fav and our win over them was big for confidence.

Why is it that everything single thing said about the boys that can be twisted into a negative, IS and then use to rub more **** in the Cowboy fans face?

I take it as more of a jab towards the media, who like to annoint people before the season starts and prop them up on the heighest of pedestals after one or two weeks of play.

It's simply an answer we'll never know.

But for me, that game clearly illustrated Dallas' "just show up and win" mentality that cost them more than once last season.

Such a shame that even after that game that mentality stuck with them, great coaching right there

The Oline was just awful in that game, I dont think Romo's pinky on the last drive before the blocked punt had much to do with that loss.

He broke his pinky on the first play of overtime. The previous two drives he'd driven the team with ease down the field to tie the game up. He was in the 'zone.'

Actually, it was more Barber than Romo.. Marion Barber got us a 70 yard TD or so that was a busted defensive play by the Cardinals... The Cowboys sank back into reality in over-time, when Jason Garrett went Jason Garrett on us.... Romo got hammered once again by the the routes Garrett chose once again to employ, that didn't allow our OL to sustain any protection...

Even had they won vs Cards it would only have made the fall that much worse. The Cowboys were playing as individuals and it showed.

If Tony doesn't break his finger, we still lose that game BUT we win the Rams game the following week & that's all we'd need to get that Final Playoff spot.
Yep, I still think the Rams game was our worse loss of the season. Even with Stinky Johnson at the helm, we should have beat them. They were JV and we came out flat like a bunch of other games. That loss was more crucial than Pitt, Bal, Philly combined.

After seeing how everything turned out, how could anyone arrive at the opinion that we would have been a better team if a few plays had gone our way.

They went against us because we were a mediocre team.

"It was a big game for us," Whisenhunt said. "It gave us confidence against a team that a lot of people thought was very good.

"There was a lot of talk about them in the preseason and how good they were and how they could go to the Super Bowl. That was a big game for us
."

.

We are the big fish on the wall for a lot of teams. It seems to be a recurring theme, beat the highly talented Cowboys, end up in the play offs and even the Super Bowl...
