After (reluctantly) making the transition to OLB in the 3-4, he was still a solid player versus the run and was at the very least average in pass coverage. So, I would say that he is/was a good player who suffered an injury players do not always recover well-enough to play at a high level afterwards. That's what I want to see first: his ability to play after recovery.
Where he was drafted disappointed some along with how he should have played after being drafted where he was, but it doesn't make the fact that he has been a solid player any less relevant.Mansta54;1615723 said:Ahh, he was a high No. 1 pick. at that level you have to be better then just a good player. He hasn't come close to his draft status and he definately isn't special, most top 10 No. 1 picks are.

I'm not into the woulda, shoulda, couldas. Sure, if I were to allow myself, I would have wanted for Ellis to have been Reggie White reincarnated. That didn't happen.Mansta54;1615757 said:I agree with all of that but is "solid" what you want from a high No. 1 pick? You can get solid in the 3rd and 4th rounds. C'mon man, he was a high No. 1 who hasn't come close to living up to that. Yes, he's great in the lockerroom, he's been a team player, he's been a leader but on the field he's been just a lil bit better then average.
Oooo! Oooo! Let me help!!!dallasfaniac;1615780 said:As much flack Ellis catches for being drafted 8th overall instead of Moss, which player drafted after him in the 1998 draft would you take today? Out of all DE drafted in 1998, who has the most sacks today?
Edit: For that matter, name one player from the 1998 draft at any position that has more sacks than Greg Ellis. I am looking and haven't found one yet unless I skipped over him.
Edit2: I passed over Leonard Little, which was a good thing we did too...

When he tied Ware for the lead in sacks two years ago?
