Who else thinks we should cut Ellis?

I would try to get Peplaw to represent me, but he and Theogt are too tight.

Ellis was always a solid player against the run in the 4-3 defense. It was his pass rushing abilities which were always in question. After (reluctantly) making the transition to OLB in the 3-4, he was still a solid player versus the run and was at the very least average in pass coverage. So, I would say that he is/was a good player who suffered an injury players do not always recover well-enough to play at a high level afterwards. That's what I want to see first: his ability to play after recovery.

Ahh, he was a high No. 1 pick. at that level you have to be better then just a good player. He hasn't come close to his draft status and he definately isn't special, most top 10 No. 1 picks are.

How time does fly. Last time I checked Ellis was 32 and now he's 34. How did he age so much in just a day. Geez, at that rate a lot of people on this board will be senior citizens in 1-2 months. Hope you guys have your retirement packages up to date.

Where he was drafted disappointed some along with how he should have played after being drafted where he was, but it doesn't make the fact that he has been a solid player any less relevant.

I agree with all of that but is "solid" what you want from a high No. 1 pick? You can get solid in the 3rd and 4th rounds. C'mon man, he was a high No. 1 who hasn't come close to living up to that. Yes, he's great in the lockerroom, he's been a team player, he's been a leader but on the field he's been just a lil bit better then average.

I'm not into the woulda, shoulda, couldas. Sure, if I were to allow myself, I would have wanted for Ellis to have been Reggie White reincarnated. That didn't happen.

Ellis was drafted as the 8th overall pick in '98. That's what actually happened.

Ellis has been a solid player throughout his career. Not great, but solid. Whiny, but solid. That's what has actually happened.

In this case, the woulda, shoulda, couldas would be best posed to Jerry Jones for debate. I'm just a fan who has to live with what he brings to the table each year--whether it's the Good, the Bad and/or the Ugly, but if someone ever finds that magic wand that turns solid players into hall of famers, I ain't gonna argue. Uh uh. Not me.

As much flack Ellis catches for being drafted 8th overall instead of Moss, which player drafted after him in the 1998 draft would you take today? Out of all DE drafted in 1998, who has the most sacks today?

Edit: For that matter, name one player from the 1998 draft at any position that has more sacks than Greg Ellis. I am looking and haven't found one yet unless I skipped over him.

Edit2: I passed over Leonard Little, which was a good thing we did too...

Oooo! Oooo! Let me help!!!

If Ellis is able to play this year, and contribute, having him at the end of the year for the stretch run may be just what we need to not fall apart in December again.

If he gets right, he'll at the very least be an important part of our OLB rotation. If Spencer struggles, he may be even more important.

So what you're saying is, we should go with a rookie, and a one year player at OLB for an entire season, rather than wait for a proven vetran to come back from an one year injury?

Yea you guys are freakin geniuses around here

Cutting Ellis would be a very dumb move.

You cannot allow your distaste for a players personality to cause you to make an unsound football decision.

Really now?

and how many of these top ten No. 1 picks, turn out to be busts?

How many turn out to be solid?

How many turn out to play great?

The draft is a crap shoot. You pick the player you best think can help you. If he doesn't, he doesn't. there aint nothing you can do about it. Who else at that pick, would you have wanted, besides Moss, that was worth of the that pick?

Answer +: no one, so take what you got, and move on.

By all means, let's keep an average, broken-down, aged and whiney player on the squad
After all, he lends wisdom and ... leadership to the team

Solid, huh?

That sounds awfully like the description of that girl your cousin fixed you up with in high school.
Shehad a nice personality and could bake really well.:)

He either can't, or won't play. Isn't it the last year of his contract? If he wants to go, then let him!

As the vote is 74 to 11 in favor of NOT cutting Ellis, it does not appear that many here agree with you on this one.

Ellis doesn't want to go, he wants to be more secure.

Once again we are falling in love with our own players for what they have done in the past not what they can do....and Ellis can't do much anymore. It's time to move on....if he was in New England he would have been gone a very long time ago.

When has he proven he can't do much anymore?

When he tied Ware for the lead in sacks two years ago?

or maybe when he was second on the team in sacks, behind ware last year?

he has yet to show he can't do anything. And with the uncertinty of what spencer, and carpenter can do, I dont think we should be cutting ways with someone we know can play

Thank you for proving my point. The guy suffered a torn achilles last year at the age of thirty-three.....it's over.
