Of the singers from the past or present who has THAT voice you know is just perfect. Not the best singers so much but the greatest voices. Those that literally could sing the phone book and you would enjoy hearing their voice. Regardless of genre, here is my top five in probably this order....

1-Karen Carpenter- A voice that was crystal clear and perfection in every note.
2-Whitney Houston-Before Drugs-she had the voice of an angel and sang like one.
3-Sandi Patti-Her range is incredible and can sing something at the high end of her range with as much emotion as she can sing something on the low range.
4-Barbara Streisand-Just a great voice-
5-Aretha Franklin-Any Genre, Any song

Male Singers is tougher

1-Elvis- he could take the phone book and his voice would be unmistakeable
2-David Phelps-Best tenor singer and most incredible range I have ever heard-
3-Elton John-Such an incredible voice and talent
4-Englebert Humperdink-his voice reminded me of velvet it was so smooth
5-Micheal Jackson-I did not like all his music but the guy had a pure voice and range that was really second to none.

Olivia Newton-John from the early 70s or so
Kate Bush

Brad Delp of Boston
Pat Benatar
Minnie Ripperton

Two names for consideration from the Pop Rock segment:

Female: Ann Wilson — Heart
Male: Steve Perry — Journey

I don't of any female singer who has a more "angelic" voice than Mary Hopkin...

As far as male singer...

Roy Oribison is the only choice.

Both Elvis and Bono said Roy's voice was the greatest they ever heard.

Barry Gibb said listening to Roy was like listing to the voice of God.

Brennan Huff, The Songbird of his generation

James Hetfield is probably the best heavy metal singer ever. Without James' talent in singing, song writing and music writing, Metallica would be an average band at best.

Kate Bush

I thought about Olivia-As a kid I would go to sleep with her singing into my head phones. She still looks great-would still consider running off with her if she asked me. Timeless.....

My wife converted me and can not believe I am gonna type this out-----Celine Deion :

For me the most angelic sounding singer is probably Amy Lee or Sara McLachlan.

On a related note: I cant understand why people love Barbra Streisand's voice so much. To me she sounds too nasally & her heavy Brooklyn accent comes out too much. I just don't get it.

I can't stand listening to her. Though I heard she is giving a concert at the new arena in Brooklyn and the tickets are going for completely stupid prices.

Angels don't exist. But if I had to pick a singer with a nice voice it would be Martina McBride.
