Regarding Dorsett's fumbling: He is ranked 18th among the top-20 RBs (in career rushing yards) in terms of fumbles (not too good) ahead of only Franco Harris and Joe Perry.

Emmitt is 6th and Curtis Martin is 1st. Here are the rankings in case anyone is interested:

Player------------Touches-Fumbles-%
1. Curtis Martin-----4002-----29---0.72
2. Marshall Faulk----3603-----36---1.00
3. Jerome Bettis----3679-----41----1.11
4. Eddie George-----3133-----37---1.18
5. Barry Sanders----3414-----41---1.20
6. Emmitt Smith-----4924-----60---1.22
7. Ricky Watters----3089-----43---1.39
8. Thurman Thomas-3349-----50---1.49
9. Terry Allen-------2356-----41---1.74
10. Marcus Allen----3609-----65---1.80
11. John Riggins-----3166----58---1.83
12. Earl Campbell----2308----43---1.86
13. O.J. Anderson---2938----56---1.91
14. Walter Payton---4330----86---1.99
15. Jim Brown-------2621----57---2.17
16. Eric Dickerson---3277----76---2.32
17. OJ Simpson-----2396----56---2.34
18. Tony Dorsett---3334----90---2.70
19. Franco Harris---3256----90---2.76
20. Joe Perry-------2189----72---3.29

Regardless, he helped us win a heck of a lot of ball games and a SuperBowl. For that, he gets a pass in my book. He was a joy to watch.

One of those an Eagle just ripped it out of his arms. That was the low point of that season for me. We shoulda had that game, but that play, along with the 8 second McNabb dance...:bang2:

I would have loved to seen what Tony D could have done in his prime with the same team Emmitt played for in his.

Nothing against Emmitt but always liked Tony D more, just such a pretty runner.

I could dance with the stars around this all day and be in a Catch22, but I wouldn't want to separate my shoulder or committ a cardinal sin and be trash surrounded by diamonds.

I watched TD at Pitt against WVU. He was awesome, he ran for over 300 yds against Notre Dame once. I will always love him for that alone.

When he became a Cowboy I was thrilled, .. Landry didn't work him to death because he was only 185 lbs and wouldn't have lasted long if Landry would have over-worked him.

He once dumped a coke on the WVU radio guy at a Pitt-WVU basketball game and I never liked that very much. He was a little bit of a punk in college.

TD is largely responsible for my becoming a Cowboys fan. I can still remember the old NFL highlight films of his untouched TD runs. Thing of beauty his running style.

Yeah.

I think of Dorsett as the more gifted runner and Emmitt Smith as the better football player.

Smith could put his team on his back and carry them, in much the same way as Staubach could.

Besides his breakaway speed (which was obvious), the thing that always impressed me about Dorsett: He rarely took a solid head-on hit. Somehow he managed to turn most hits into glancing blows -- or he managed to get out of bounds. It must have been quite frustrating for defenses.

one of the things always said about TD was that he wasnt a
"tough runner ", like the previous post mentioned his ability to turn hits
into glancing blows or being able to get out of bounds...having watched
him only on television i sort of thought that way about him also.
However, at the first Cowboy game i attended in person he had a full
head of steam going and lowered his shoulder into the defender and bowled
him over with a very LOUD pop...good enough i could hear it about 40 rows
up. after that i never thought of him as not being a tough runner.
loved to watch him run the ball. loved watching emmitt too, and calvin hill,
duane thomas, walt garrison, moose......but yeah TD was special.
