Who is the backup QB?

Kaepernick has more relevance to media members that believe there is a conspiracy against him than the Cowboys.

Exactly. His style of play and personality do not fit with the current roster. Not saying he could not fit in with his teammates but he would have to change.

In that respect, the Cowboys are no different than the vast majority of other teams in this league.

Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Indy, Seattle, Atlanta, Carolina, New Orleans. And on down the list. We are no different.

in fairness, Steelers won games last year without their starter and I remember Green Bay beating us a couple of years ago with Flynn as QB.

In any event, I don't care what other teams have, our backup can't throw a pass to save his life.

Scott Linehan said Kellen Moore is the backup QB this year so unless you miraculously get more pull with the powers that be than he does then that is the way it will be no matter how much you complain and whine about it.

Moore will have his opportunity before the season starts to show he can handle the position. There are a couple of QBs on the roster and other vets will be cut in June. There is plenty of time for this work itself out.

The back-up quarterback currently works for CBS and will be calling games up until Dak has a physical injury. Jerry Jones figured a way to stash Romo on injured reserve and didn't have to pay him for the pleasure.

Why can't Kellen Moore be the backup? He may not be all that, but which backup QB is? Backup QB's are backups for a reason.

They may bring in a veteran, but I don't expect him to be any better than Kellen Moore.

I don't see the team bringing in Kaepernick along with all the baggage he brings with him.

Because he is God awful, you have a better arm than he does.

Thanks! Maybe I do.

If our starter goes down, the team is done for. Unless Moore becomes another Prescott.

But that fact holds true for every team in the league, except for maybe NE. Green Bay is a 5 win team without Aaron Rodgers. NO is a 3 win team without Drew Brees. Same with Indy and Andrew Luck.

I know you don't care about other teams, but that's the way the NFL is. There aren't 32 quality starters, let alone quality backups. The Cowboys will not escape this fact no matter who they bring in. So you may as well just roll with Moore.

I agree with all of that, but there are better options out there than Moore.

You missed a few words. Our backup can't throw a decent 15+ yard pass to save his life. He's actually pretty good short and acceptable intermediate until you start getting toward the sidelines.

Beyond that if Dak goes down for more then a week or two the season is probably lost anyway unless we've signed someone who is a starter level player to what is likely to be a starter level contract. If you want Kaep that's fine, realize you're looking at 5 million minimum, possibly more. I'd imagine the same for Cutler. Basically, to me it feels like you're buying a very expensive and somewhat mediocre insurance policy. To me I really doubt the team wants to invest serious resources to back up the 23 year old second year QB, and they probably shouldn't.

I'd take a look at Ryan Fitzpatrick. Had a great season a couple years ago when they kept him upright. His brain turns to scrambled eggs when he's under pressure, but that's not a worry here. He'd have the time to read and diagnose.
Fitzpatrick = Sanchez
Heck no!

Stephen said it... He would be giving Romo a call to come save them if Dak goes down and will be missing a few games. Moore is the short term backup QB but if a long term backup is needed, his name is Tony Romo.

Tony isn't leaving the CBS booth to save our season. The Cowboys have to quit thinking like that. That ship has sailed.

Who says so? That's just you. Tony's dream is to take the Cowboys to a SB and win it. Who are you to dash those dreams if the opportunity arises?

Anyway, the best vets around are Cutler, like him or not, and Fitzpatrick...would they take the backup job and pay??

Really? That dream has sailed. He's now on the #1 CBS announcing team. He isn't going to quit midseason and join the Cowboys. Hasn't played meaningful football in 2 years. Probably be longer than that before we would need him. He obviously doesn't need practice because he's Tony Romo. He can just leave the booth and join the Cowboys without ever missing a beat. 2 playoff wins when he was healthy and he's going to take us to the SB coming out of the booth. If he plays again it will be after this season and it will probably be for another team after he has workouts and a training camp. I doubt that happens either. Tony is done. He knows it. I wish fans would too.
