Who is the better quarterback: Eli Manning or Tony Romo?

Romo is the better player. Put him on the Giants and he has 3 SB rings. Meanwhile we'd be a lottery team without Romo.

If you look at last season, then no... The Giants weren't "head & shoulders" above the Cowboys.

For much of their season their defense wasn't much better than average and their offensive line was arguably worse than the Cowboys.

Eli avoiding making the big turnover and was terrific at getting the ball downfield.

I think Romo is the better passer.

Eli is like the "Jim Plunkett" of this era. He won't wow you with a 70% completion percentage but he'll stubbornly drag his team to victory.

Stats say Romo, common sense at this point is pointing towards Manning.

He has the pelts and has come up big when it matters most.

If the Cowboys blinders are taken off for a moment and your compare a QB who had led his team to exactly one playoff victory and compare that to a QB who has two Superbowl victories -- each time having to go through the Packers at Lambeau Field to get there, it is MIGHTY impressive.

I love Romo, however, Manning is working on his HOF credentials and Romo, unfortunately is working on getting past the 2nd round of the playoffs.

Stats can tell you whatever you want...in the end, the super bowl victories are what matters. Ask Dan Marino if he would trade a few stats for a SB victory.

The Cowboys defense allowed fewer yards and 3.3 fewer points per game. The Giants' offense averaged the fewest rushing yards per game and lowest yards per attempt in the NFL. And Eli was the most pressured and hit QB in the league.

Romo is better. Eli has the luxury of never having to play flawlessly. Romo can have a perfect game and the team can still lose.

It just sounds like excuses to me. Didn't Romo play with 12 pro-bowlers one year?

Any QB can play a perfect game an still lose.

I love Romo, however, most of what I am seeing in this thread in terms just looks like sour grapes.

I think Romo's the better QB, and-until this last season-by a significant margin, and I'd feel that way if he were wearing a NYFG helmet. (And in my world, the 'F' in NYFG does not stand for 'football.')

I have no problem not judging a QB by a team measurement. And I have no trouble believing Romo could have won with that Giants team last year. The guy's unbelievably talented.

Heck Idgit I tend to agree with you that I <think> Romo might have done as well as Eli last year if he QB'd for the Giants.

Having said that, you do realize how silly sounding the arguements are starting to get in order to justify Romo > Manning.

The thing about Romo is it all sounds silly now, but let him win a Super Bowl and then it is not so silly.

Alex Smith was about 4 QTRs and two really dumb plays by a special teams player away from having as many Super Bowl wins as Peyton Manning, Brees, and Rodgers. I highly doubt though a Super Bowl win under his belt would have elevated him to Brees, Brady, Manning X 2, Rodgers, and Ben R company.

I can embrace the fact that if Romo never wins a Super Bowl his legacy will not be that of a great QB. However, if someone cannot acknowledge that given a Super Bowl under Romo's belt, he will be unquestionably considered one of the elite's.

Of course Super Bowl victories are the ultimate goal, but they are a team achievement. Using them as the end-all, be-all measure for evaluating quarterbacks is ridiculous.

Box score stats certainly aren't a perfect measure for determining how good an individual player is, but they're a hell of a lot better than wins, even if wins are what's ultimately important to the players/teams/fans.

Again, Eli has had more success thus far than Tony Romo, but that doesn't make him the better quarterback.

It is so funny.

Fans talking about the Cowboys "Jerry Jones is a joke...Dallas will never win as long as he is the GM", "Wade Phillips is a doofus", "The defense SUCKS", "Miles is a one year wonder", "Dez only knows three routes", "Garrett is Ivy League smart and football stupid", "Cowboys need two new guards and a center", "Witten has lost a step", "Coleman should get cut", "Spears has to go", "Ratliff is not a NT", "Newman could not cover my grandma", "Jenkins has no heart", "They paid Scandrick like he is a legit corner", "Our safeties can't cover", "Bradie James is JAG", "Spencer has to be replaced in the draft".

Fans talking about Romo "Haha LOL...what a loser...How many Super Bowls does he have. SCOREBOARD".

The Giants weren't without their flaws last year. But, as a team, they played well enough down the stretch (where all championships are won) to overcome those flaws.

Props to Eli - he was obviously a HUGE reason the Giants won the title. But it darn sure wasn't ALL HIM.

Tony Romo is plenty good enough to QB the Cowboys to a title. But other areas of the Cowboys' team will have to deliver in a way they DIDN'T last season.

In my book, there is very little daylight between twice-titled Eli and non-titled Tony. The biggest difference has been one teams' ability to OVERCOME their flaws - while the other team allowed themselves to be characterized by theirs.

Giving credit where credit is due, I do think Eli closed the gap considerably last season. Previously, I believe Romo was clearly better. He's more accurate, more mobile, does better under pressure, throws fewer interceptions, etc. Last year, I think Manning stepped up in clutch situations and probably at least pulled even with Romo because of his play late in games.

Manning definitely benefited from his team's defense and running game playing well late in the season, especially the defense, but I think he deserves credit for doing his part.

I have no problem now with Manning and Romo being mentioned in the same breath.

Romo, but the usual haters will say that Eli is better because of his 2 SB rings - as if Romo wouldn't have won them had he had the same kind of pass rush and other contributing team players around him that Eli had.

Why are we still talking about Romo? This must be like the 30th thread on the topic this year.

who is the better QB? Staubach or Marino?

Staubach with the Lombardini trophy.

The more hardware the Giants collect, the sillier the argument sounds, for sure. But I still think Romo's the better player. The Giants have been the better organization recently, though. No doubt about that. That's really all that matters. It doesn't necessarily follow that all of their players have to be better, too. Even at a position as important as QB.

Eli definitely had a great year. Prior to last season, I thought he was massively overrated, but not in 2011. The two were pretty much neck and neck last season. It's part of why the NFCE is so much fun right now.

IMO Romo is the much better QB. Put Romo on the Giants and Romo has at the minimum 2 SB rings. Put Eli on the Cowboys and he would be a complete failure with even more interceptions than he currently throws.

Romo has outplayed Eli every single year since he has been starting. Has Eli's qb rating ever been higher than Romo's? With Eli its all been about the supporting cast, his defense takes over games and Romo's defense has always come up small. It's a real shame that Romo has been labeled a choker due to this teams weaknesses and lack of heart. Hopefully he will get at least 1 SB before he calls it quits, he deserves it.

This. :starspin

But isn't that what Romo has had? The Cowboys were 7th in the league in sacks last year, 3rd in 2007, and they have arguably the best pass rusher in the NFL. Plus, they had 13 Pro Bowlers in 2007 while the Giants only had 1.
