Who is the better quarterback: Eli Manning or Tony Romo?

I don't think you can go wrong with either guy. One just happens to play for a better organization and has put up big time performances when it mattered most.

The thing that pisses me off is when I have to read/watch stupid top 100 player polls that put guys like Vick and Matt Ryan above Romo.

Neither of those guys are on Romo's level.

I agree about vick, ryan, flacco, cutler and those guys. I'm just saying eli over romo, as of now.

He didn't?

He almost threw for 5,000 yards and 30 TDs AND won a Super Bowl. To add to that he now has two Super Bowl MVP trophies.

Any QB with a resume like that is elite in my book.

If that was Romo you'd be propping the hell out of him. But since it's Eli you have to dismiss the accomplishment.

Take off the blue and silver shades and give the man his props.

I'm not saying Eli isn't elite because I'm a homer and am incapable of giving him his props, I'm saying Eli isn't elite because I know what "elite" means.

But isn't that what Romo has had? The Cowboys were 7th in the league in sacks last year, 3rd in 2007, and they have arguably the best pass rusher in the NFL. Plus, they had 13 Pro Bowlers in 2007 while the Giants only had 1.

Playoff victories/Super Bowl victories have nothing to do with where you rank offensively and defensively during the regular season, or even how many Pro Bowlers you have, and everything to do with how the TEAM is playing at that time (along with who gets the breaks, because breaks do become very important between closely matched teams).

Look at Green Bay last year. The Giants came together as a team, which trumped all that Aaron Rodgers had accomplished during one of the best regular-season performances ever.

I can tell you every reason Dallas hasn't had the same playoff success as New York, and Romo isn't one of them, just like laying the Packers' loss at Rodgers' feet would be ignorant.

Perfect example of the fact that the quarterback doesn't win a super bowl, a team does.

List of the last 10 Super bowl winning QBs and their defense's rank (points allowed)

2011 - Manning - 25th
2010 - Rodgers - 2nd
2009 - Brees - 20th
2008 - Roethlisberger - 1st
2007 - Manning - 17th
2006 - P. Manning - 23rd
2005 - Roethlisberger - 3rd
2004 - Brady - 2nd
2003 - Brady - 1st
2002 - Johnson - 1st

Lets examine any QB who didn't have a top 3 defense

Mannings, Brees, and P. Manning

Eli Manning's rushing game was 6th in touchdowns. Brees' rushing game was 3rd in touchdowns. Eli Manning's 1st super bowl rushing game was 7th in touchdowns. P. Manning's rushing game was 6th in touchdowns.

A qb needs a defense and/or a running game that can score.

Year - Defense ranking - Rushing ranking
2011 - 16th - 30th
2010 - 31st - 21st
2009 - 2nd - 15th (won playoff game) Beat the Saints
2008 - 20th - 22nd
2007 - 13th - 10th (#1 seed in the NFC iirc) Swept NYG Regular season
2006 - 20th - 3rd Beat the Colts

Honestly if you look at it other than 2009 when our team just fell apart, we've not been romo friendly at all.

If Rob Ryan can deliver a top ranked defense, and DeMarco Murray and Felix Jones can score some touchdowns for Romo, we have a shot at the super bowl.

Look at Tom Brady's career here has been his defensive ranks (pts) vs record

2001 - 6 (11-5)
2002 - 17 (9-7)
2003 - 1 (14-2)
2004 - 2 (14-2)
2005 - 17 (10-6)
2006 - 2 (12-4)
2007 - 4 (16-0)
2009 - 5 (10-6)
2010 - 8 (14-2)
2011 - 15 (13-3)

Troy Aikman

1989 - 24
1990 - 15
1991 - 17
1992 - 5
1993 - 2
1994 - 3
1995 - 3
1996 - 3
1997 - 13
1998 - 3
1999 - 5
2000 - 22

Aikman had consistently good offense essentially his entire career (when he started winning super bowls), combined with a great running game...

You are right about that. Which is why it surprises me that we did not do more to improve the OL.

Romo's play was outstanding in 2011. He had a couple of bad finishes, Jets & Lions games, but other than that he was a stud.

I agree with you all the way that a QB doesnt win a Super Bowl a team does. The biggest odstacles facing the Boys have been o- line, bad secondary, spotty pass rush, and coaching. Romo has been the least of our problems.
However, no one can honestly say #9 is better than #10 with out being a homer.

I think we felt as though we were improving the offensive line with the tackle swap, combined with beefing up the interior.

If you look at the money we have left, it's not substantial enough to have improved the interior line any further. I expect guys like Coleman and maybe Spears to get cut pretty soon to make room.

It's pretty easy to be a great qb when you have one of the best offensive lines in football, and a top 3 defense every year.

Why? Romo has been better than Eli every single season. Eli has accomplished more, but you just acknowledged that those are team accomplishments.

Eli does have a top defense but come on his o -line is no where near the best.

Yes, i agree they are TEAM accomplishments. I really believe if Tony and eli switched places the last few seasons, the results for both teams would be about the same. I'm just saying right now you have to give the slight nod to eli.

That defensive ranking for Eli is skewed. Everybody who watches the NFL knows their defense got hot at the end of the year, and that is why many people picked them to go on a run.

Eli is Jim Plunkett 2. Not awesome, but on some teams that got hot at the right time.

Based on what, exactly?

Actually, you said to give Romo the nod was lunacy. And then when asked why, you cite team accomplishments.

It's like Kobe vs LeBron.

LeBron's numbers show that he is unquestionably the better player. A much more efficient scorer, better passer, better rebounder, and better defender.

Kobe's rings give his fans, LeBron haters, and illogical people everywhere the ability to discredit LeBron and pretend that Kobe is superior.

And that's basketball. A sport in which an individual star has FAR more ability to "take over a game" than a QB in football.

It's really simple, people. Either you believe football is a team sport or you believe it's QB vs QB throwing balls at targets for 3 hours. Either you believe it's "Kobe vs Kevin Durant" and the other 8 guys on the court are largely irrelevant or you believe basketball is a team sport.

What you can't do is have it both ways.

Tony Romo is easily the better QB than Eli Manning. Cut the nonsense. There will never be any reasonable justification for using team success to judge individual players. It's for silly, illogical people.

If Eli was even close to as good as Romo, their numbers would be comparable. They're not because he's not.
