John Wayne. IMO, no one has ever been more intriguing and interesting to watch. I'm not saying he was the best actor. The question is "favorite actor." No one else even comes close.

Heat was an awesome, awesome movie. Pacino and DeNiro just nailed their roles, Kilmer was pretty good as well.

There was the action, there was the relationship of the three leads with their women... and I'll tell you what, this movie and Twister give my surround sound system the best workouts of any movies I've played on my system... in the final shootout, you can hear the airplanes coming in from the right and landing to your left...

Considering my avi, I have to say my favorite actress is Angela Bassett. Just produces quality, well-rounded performances. There's another actress that I like alot, but I can't think of her name at the moment.

I also like Samuel L. Jackson. Primarily because he does so many different types of movies.

Samuel's another who can play a good guy or a bad guy with equal ease...

Denzel is great. And Hackman is amazingly versatile. He's never bad.

And someone's mention of Robin Williams was right on. He is so natural as the goofy zany guy that I think the fact that he was able to pull off Good Will Hunting, Dead Poet, etc at all speaks well of him. It seems he of all people deserves more credit for versatility just because he seems so naturally NOT those characters.

A week or so ago I watched an old Law and Order: SVU with Robin as the bad guy... in one scene toward the end, talking about watching his wife die in childbirth, he gave this amazing performance of a man having a nervous breakdown... you could feel his agony...

That's what got me thinking about his abilities as a serious actor...

My favorite actor is Jason Lee. I wish he had chosen not to be in some clunker movies such as Stealing Harvard or whatever it was and Mumford. Chasing Amy is my favorite movie he was in, and he is basically the reason I watched My Name is Earl (though Jamie Pressley stole the scenes she was in).

I'm not sure I have a favorite actress but I guess I'll go with Summer Glau since she's been on a couple really good shows, is pleasant on the eyes, and is apparently a Cowboys fan.

Russell Crowe
Val Kilmer I thought his performance in The Doors and Doc Holiday in Tombstone was excellent.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Paul Giamatti are the two best character actors that I can think of, off hand.

Those two are very good.
One actor who shed his pretty boy image and has become the real deal is DiCaprio
Liked him a lot in Blood Diamond and The Departed.

Jack Nicholson anyone?

I'll have to go with Ethan Hawke, he's done with his pretty boy acting days

he's great playing a emotionally weak character (Before the Devil Knows You're Dead), or a charged up person (What Doesn't Kill You)
