Who should A&M target for coach?

Terry Bowden is out there and he coached in the SEC.

:D

On a serious note...Although I often think the resident ATM fan is usually wrong about things, in this case I agree with him that they need to get a defensive minded coach.

I like your new signature, nice color scheme.

Seems unlikely given UCLA has a comparable medical facility on their own premises and still couldn't lure him.

Pretty much my thoughts. I'm just surprised we're actually trying to get elite level coaching prospects after our one interview, one hire bit with Sherman four years ago.

Heard that Clemson coach Dabo Swinney may interview for Texas A&M job.

The Houston Chronicle is reporting Mark Richt (HC at Georgia) as another potential target for the TAMU job. It is probably just a rumor but I appreciate the school taking it's time and reviewing all options.

An A&M insider said Richt is in the mix to possibly replace Mike Sherman, who was fired last week following four seasons and a 25-25 record. And Richt certainly fits the bill of someone who knows the Southeastern Conference – the Aggies' destination next season – inside and out.

Richt, 51, is in his 11th season with the Bulldogs, and won SEC championships in 2002 and '05. The insider said should the Aggies hire Richt, Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart likely would then head home to Georgia, where he played for the Bulldogs.

Wouldn't it be a lateral move at best to move within the SEC like that? Georgia is pretty good now aren't they, why leave to a rebuilder?

There has been talk of getting rid of Richt for the last couple of years. There was even some rumbling about it earlier this season when Georgia started out 0-2. Richt ended up have a good season, but if he had a bad year next year it could be his last in Georgia. There would be more job security at A&M. He would at least get 3 or 4 years.

Richt is supposedly very unhappy with his treatment in Athens the last few years, both from the administration and the fans.

He wouldn't get any better treatment in College Station :bang2:

talk here in aggieland is Sumlin will be a massive failure, nobody happy that it might happen, until it happens then it will be a great hire.

I hear Richt was offered $4 million and it was turned down.

Sumlin will be searching for a new job by 2016

I actually looked up some A&M boards yesterday, and even last week people were hoping for Sumlin, mainly because he's apparently a good recruiter. If he is that good a recruiter, it's hard to argue with the pick.

I know you're a big UT fan, though.

If nothing else, it stops all the "A&M is a good old boy school full of racists" schtick that other coaches have used againt us in recruiting for years.

I also work retail with 80 some odd aggie students working here with 2,000+ paying customers a day, not counting all the people coming in with them of which 90% would be aggie fans so when I speak of aggie rumblings it's coming staight from aggie mouths, not texags.

I'm pretty excited about this hiring. His coaching background is really impressive with stints under RC and also Stoops. There's no question about his ability to field an incredible offense. Now it's just a matter of building an impressive defense to compliment it.

I honestly believe, and maybe this is the homer in me, that by year 2 of play in the SEC, the Ags will be competing at the top of their division.

I hope A&M keeps Deruyter. People say he had a bad defense last year, but he really didnt if you break down the numbers

A&M played five of the seven "fastest" offenses in CFB last year, meaning they saw more plays than anyone in the country. In terms of average yards per play, A&M was 16th in the country. In terms of yards per rush attempt, A&M was 3rd in the country. If not for a string of injuries in our secondary, our overall numbers would have looked much better.

In addition, Deruyter's defense held SMU, Idaho, Oklahoma State, OU, Kansas State, Kansas and Texas all to their worst or second worst half of offense all season. He has his defense going in the right direction, and we won't be facing any offense like OU or OSU with that pace in the SEC. Even Arkansas doesnt go that fast.

How they had Dino Babers they hired and that guy was a terrible hire and in fact he was demoted and Sumlin took over under RC and A&M had it's best offense ever under Sumlin in that small stretch even putting up big numbers with Dustin Long at QB for a few games due to injury (Who transferred to Sam Houston State soon after).

Sumlin has ties back to Texas A&M
