Flo-
I think: Hes about done, and if he falls off the cliff it could ruin a promising season
I think Jerry thinks: Hes been so good for years he deserves another shot

Hamlin-
I think: He didnt get beat much b/c our rush is so good. Id cut him and move Ball to FS, then draft a CB mid roundish.
I think Jerry thinks: Hes our capítan! W/O him the D would line up backwards.

Carpenter- One more year on contract
I think: His bad plays stand out to us and he serves a purpose.
I think Jerry thinks: Something similar

Colombo-
I never liked him, injury or not.
Jerry thinks: nothing of this b/c it wont get discussed

If you suggest RW you lose b/c its not happening so stop

If we were looking at a capped year I would agree but given the fact we have an upcapped year we are looking at I think the guys who have been around for a while now who have failed to make the lineup are the ones who could be replaced.

I think Hamlin is overpaid vs. production, but I think the defense held together better when he was in there vs. Ball. Unless we have someone better than Hamlin on the roster right now, I'd keep keep him until I did get someone better.

As for Carpenter, I think he played pretty well in the nickel. He and J Williams/Hodge should battle it out in TC for that role.

As for Colombo, I know most want to cut him, but honestly said, I have never seen him play as poorly as he did vs. the Vikings. I have to think that his coming back from injury had a lot to do with it. Maybe he wasn't confident how his leg would respond, or he was worried about his quickness given the leg injury, esp when playing in an away stadium with the crowd noise, etc. Clearly, he should be put in competition vs. Free for that position, IMO.

Hard to believe the team can't find someone better than Proctor. Good thing no one remembers how much he sucks.

Agree with releasing Barber before Flo as well.

Problem is, Dallas has mad money wound up in Barber. I don't know enough about how the uncapped thing works. But, wouldn't releasing Barber cost Dallas.

With Flo, there isn't a solid guy to replace him with. And Dallas is close to that #6, so unless some godly LT falls from the guy that can step right in and take over arguably one of the hardest positions on the field, I think Flo is back for another year. Hopefully they can groom someone to take over soon.

Back to Barber though. Would like to see what he has left when fully healthy. He is dancin way too much in the backfield and not breaking as many tackles. Is that because of weardown or injury? Curious about that and if it is because of injury? No way am I releasing that guy. I would keep him and jones and put Jones in as #1.

Until there is a tackle that is AS good or better than Flo why in hell would you get rid of him? Is Colombo better than Flo? No. Is Doug Free better than Flo? No.

Getting rid of Flo right now is as crazy as that OTHER thread talking about getting rid of Romo.

When Flo went down in the Vikings game, that sealed the game for the Cowboys. You want to play every game without Adams? I don't think so.

I'm not really sure the team has committed to trying to find a quality replacement yet. If that's the case, he'll never get cut.

Like I have stated before.

Alot of folk are gonna miss Flo when he is gone. That Minny game was just a glimpse. Be his 13th season next year I believe, and he ain't gonna last forever. Major importance is the O-line in the offseason. That and kicker, above anything else.

I think that Dallas has been trying to really seal up their defense with top picks in so many drafts that LT wasn't a "real" issue then. It is now, and I hope they can find an LT in the draft this year.

Flo probably has one more year in him. He played pretty good at the end of the season. Colombo will be back if he can get back in shape. I think Free will start one day when either Flo or Colombo are gone.

I'm hoping somebody can beat Kosier out for his spot in training camp. I don't think he's a very good pass blocker and he's not a great run blocker either. He is good at making blocks on the second level. Brewster, or somebody they draft in the 2nd or 3rd round this season.

I think they envision Ball as a future starter at safety. I would guess free safety because he isn't a particularly great tackler. I think Pat Watkins has probably played his last season in Dallas. He'll go somewhere like New England and help them out.

With just a little bit better blocking up front and better production out of Uno Uno (maybe catching 25% more of the balls thrown to him) the offense would take a pretty big step forward. I think they got on a good roll as the season went by and know what they want to do, except for Roy.

Defensively they are pretty solid up front but getting another good young tackle or end in the first round is never a bad thing. If you can replace Olshansky or Spears with somebody who can give even better production, they'll be that much better. Otherwise, minor improvements in the secondary (depth at CB, maybe an improvement over Sensabaugh) could make them good enough to stand up to Minnesota's and New Orlean's offenses.

I haven't seen the numbers, but it would not surprise me if Witten had more false starts this season than Flozell did. Obviously, Flo has had his negative moments and we do need to be addressing his backup and eventual replacement, but he's still very good at his position and I believe had fewer false starts this season than usual.

I think Flo should stay on the team. We just need to find his replacement, is all. Get a guy in the draft who can play LT; let Flo start and if he can't play anymore, sit him and cut him next year. It would be foolish to kick Flo to the curb and then be stuck with no back up plan.

Same thing with Hamlin. I rag on him alot, but the D was much more organized with him back there than Ball. Look for a guy to replace him and let them duke it out.

On the other hand, Barber--imo--is way past his prime and only going to get more and more slow and hurt as the years go by. I would try trading him, and if no one bites, would not be opposed to cutting him. His replacement is already on the roster and ready to go. We lose nothing by cutting/trading him; but stand to lose a lot by keeping him. That's the one guy, and I hate to say it, that I think should be playing on another team next year

Of course, Id love it if we moved on without Roy. It's never going to work out. But then I'd just be getting my hopes up.

The problem Dallas faces is the top LTs go way higher in the draft than the Cowboys pick. Then you have the project tackles. The problem is Dallas has continuously failed to convert a project into an actual starting tackle.

I think the Cowboys are in a lot better shape drafting offensive linemen with Hudson Houck back in the mix. The man has produce a slew a very good offensive linemen that were drafted on his watch.

Last year we drafted a single offensive linemen, but we didn't get to see him due to injury. I'm very optimistic that our luck will change on OLine drafting with Houck on the staff.

I was thinking the same thing. I love Witten and all but He had issues with penalties all season.

Olshansky is under contract and played outstanding this year against the run, as did Spears. As a DE in the 3-4 you're never going to fill up the stat sheet with sacks and TFL, your main objective is to hold your point of attack, eat blockers and stop the run when it comes at you. If you're looking for minor improvements on defense I think ILB is the most logical spot, after a ball-hawking safety. (But we've needed one of those for years.) Sensabaugh was also pretty good this year if we can forget about the screw up in the MIN game. Young, athletic OL and ILB would make us even more complete. As long as we resign our RFA DL we should be fine in that area.

I'm pretty sure I heard during the MIN game that Flozell had 6 false starts this year. Witten had at least that many, and that many procedure penalties too.
