Why does anyone think the team will franchise Dez? It would destroy the relationship and screw dez's head up bad. Murray is a much more likely franchise target. Dez will sign a contract after the season and it will be enormous. Jerry is absolutely in love with him.

Why would they franchise Murray for 9 mil when they wont even offer him 5mil a yr?

We could draft a guy as well...

Keep the youth movement going.

I just think we have got to address the defense in the early rounds. We tried the past 2 years, but the draft didn't fall our way. So, we ended up with Frederick and Zach..........who have both far exceeded expectations. If we go into 2015 with only Parnell at RT, then that position becomes a priority. I think 4 first round draft picks on one OL would be some kind of league record and overkill.

You answered your own question there. They'll want to keep Murray but not necessarily give him a big long term deal. And there's no way he accepts 5 mil per year. So the franchise tag makes perfect sense. If Murray does it two years in a row give him a big deal.

It's comedy that people think RB's are interchangeable. Demarco is a stud as was Emmitt. Having dominant lines just makes them better. You think just because we had a great line in the 90s that Sherman Williams would have been an ok replacement for Emmitt?

If we're drafting at the end of the 1st and we're waiting on pass rushers then I just don't see it happening. We'll have to move up to get a good rush guy.

If we want quality we'll have to look at Right Tackle, RB, Safety, and maybe a DB.

If we let Murray walk and draft a Melvin Gordon and get a pass rusher in free agency with Murrays money then that may be how we get a quality guy.

I'd bet Carr stays on a re-negotiated contract. I'd love to see him at deep safety. He loves it here and feels a responsibility to earn his way. I think he feels he owes the team something like playing for a lower salary.

STAY:
Dez - a deal will get done
Murray - may test the FA market, but would like to see a decent deal
Leary - yes, sign this guy
Parnell - he hasn't shown me much, time to move on, a guy can be drafted to replace him, but also depends on Free and his status
Melton - redo his contract, keep him
Durant - I think he can be kept at a decent price, coming off an injury, need for depth if not starting
Rolando - extend him, shown he is worth it

GO:
Carr - stays, his release saves nothing on the cap, nor does it cost to keep him. He's playing decent, but never up to some people's expectations
Carter - I think he should stay, if a decent price. He's playing very well most the time it seems
Selvie - he can be replaced in the draft
Spencer - time to move on
Free - need to sign him, playing very well, and he is what 30?, still decent age for an OL. Depends on Parnell too.
Wilber - I think he can be replaced too. Shows decent, but not consistent IMO.

add Mo - yes, Mo will be here, he will be a low cost 3rd or 4th CB and can never have enough CB's. Knows the system too.

I don't think we will drafting high enough for an impact pass rusher either. But we have a big needs at cb, s, and lb. Those positions are easy to address in the draft at the end of round 1. I agree we should not break the bank for murray. I'd like to see Todd Gurley in a cowboy uniform.

An impact pass rusher doesn't have to be a top 10 pick all the time. You never know, a late 1st / early 2nd can become that guy.
Ware had 8 sacks his 1st year. Not sure if those were later or spread out through the entire season. We have Lawrence, let's see how he finishes this year, then go from there. He missed 1st 8 games and almost all of TC. This is his TC real time.

And JJ passed on JM and we got ZM. So maybe that changes the entire drafts from here on out....:)

Why would they pay Murray for basically the price they want in two years in one? And I don't know if you have noticed Randle is having the same kind of success every time he touches the ball. It's not a coincidence Murray isn't being touch until he's already gained 6 yrds. The ol is the key not the rb.

Is this what you want? or what you think the team will do? I don't see the team letting Free, Carter, and Selvie going.

I don't understand the mind-set that we have to release every player that isn't pro-bowl material. A good team needs depth and hopefully none of those guys will cost that much to keep(maybe Carter),,, the only other problem would be if they were "progress stoppers". Let the season play out and then assess their values.

Stay:
Dez - this one's pretty obvious
R. McClain - extend him.
Free - i think he takes a reasonable extension and we keep him. If he's not a value, give his money to Parnell and pick up someone to compete for that spot.
Leary - he's an RFA, so it's a no-brainer to give him the second tender and hang onto him another season. Extending him next year is going to be an interesting decision.
Durant - he's getting extended. He was on track to play himself out of Dallas into a nice contract, but his injury probably keeps him in our price range and in our LB rotation.

Melton - I think we keep him, but I think he probably redoes his deal to stay here after playing well but not meeting expectations early. This assumes Marinelli stays, too. If Marinelli goes, I don't keep this guy at his price.
Moore - probably gets extended as he ought to be relatively affordable and we're probably going to lose Carr.

Go:
Murray - love the player, don't love the age, really don't love the price tag.
Carr - his production can be replaced less expensively. Unless he wants to get a haircut. Claiborne is around another year and will be in the running for his snaps.
Carter - gonzo.
Selvie - we might bring him back if nobody offers him more, but he and Spencer are both expendable.
Spencer - with Gardener coming back and, probably, a high draft pick at that position, we've got two spots to give up at DE if we want to.
Wilber - replaceable.
Parnell - Weems or another player probably takes his spot in the rotation.

Do we really have needs at LB?

I think we can get by there.

Ro, Carter, Hitch, Lee, sign back Durant... Im probably forgetting someone.

Agree.. We could draft Melvin Gordon and be fine at the position and still have a quality RB on the cheap.

I'd like to keep Murray but he is expendable.

Carr is a textbook example of why it's dangerous to keep kicking the can and restructuring big deals and pushing money into future years.

I agree with you they have to figure out <somewhere> to play Carr because effectively they can't cut him even through his play has been trending downward since his first year here.

It just seems like Ro and Lee are made of glass and can't be counted on. Durant is going to be 29 next year, so he is approaching the end of his productive years. On paper though, we look good.

Jerry typically keeps the guys he wants, ergo:

STAY:

Dez
Murray (incentive heavy deal)
Leary
Parnell
Melton (renegotiated from current deal)
Durant
Rolando
Carr (overpaid and a CB is drafted, but a lack of quality alternatives saves his spot)
Spencer (incentive heavy deal)
Wilber (decent backup who is already signed for next year)

GO:

Carter
Selvie
Free (he is going to want a salary increase and someone will give it to him)

Parnell has proven he can be a starter.

They have 2 developmental guys that the like enough to keep on the 53 (Hawkins and Weems). Weems is now on IR but he was on the 53 all of last season.

I think Wetzel is still on the PS and some people thought he looked decent in the preseason.

Its also going to be a DeMarcus Ware situation where Free has more value to another team than he does to the Cowboys. It will be the last chance for Free to get a big FA contract and he is going to want more than his current 3.5 million.
