No, I am just hearing that Collins is blowing Martin off the line with power which is something we havent heard since Martin was drafted, so either Martin is regressing, or Collins is actually a beast. Him commanding double teams will surely open up one on one matchups for our DE's. Or is that not how football works?

Blowing him off the line in OTA's? I never get caught in anything with OTA's. But I do very much like Collins. I think he is a stud in the making. I just dont see him as a big sack guy. If he leads the team in sacks I am not sure that is a good thing. It either means the guy is a total stud or our DE's stink. At some point they will just double team him if he is that good.

Why? There were years where Randy White lead the team in sacks.

Maliek Collins is not Randy White. The fact that we're talking about a 2nd year DT as the likely sack leader is a bad thing. It would be a very good sign for Collins' progression of course; but a bad sign for our unit as a whole.

Collins in heading into his 2nd year we don't know what Collins is or isn't that can only be determined by the production of the player. If Collins can put up big numbers great I don't care if it is a DE or a DT, hell pressure up the gut in the fastest rout to the QB if you can get a guy who can penetrate into the back field. My hope is the defense in general gets production out of several players along the front 7 who leads the team in sacks I don't care.

I think that this is a much more realistic expectation than to suddenly expect one of these candidates to emerge as a double-digit sack guy, based on none of them having done so before.

Collins is being woefully underestimated by many fans.

I just hate to claim what a player is or isn't this early in their career. When I mentioned Randy White it was not comparison of the 2 players it is the fact that as a DT he was able to produce the pressure that lead to sacks by him and others along the DL. Will Collins become a star player in this league? who knows I can't say he will or won't. Clearly based on the fact there are many HOF players who were nothing more than mid to late rd picks only proves you can't judge a player strictly by where they were drafted.

I completely understand where you were coming from, and I think you were on point in your assessment. I'm not understanding the thinking that Collins leading the team in sacks is a failure.

Based on actual results, the case is stronger that he will be a very good player in this league. And anyone doing their homework can see for themselves that his rookie season was better than Hall of Famer Warren Sapp's was.

Collins could end up being the 3rd greatest DT in Dallas history behind Bob Lilly and Randy White !!!!
