Why are people still talking about FS in round 1?

If a FS is the highest rated player--by a long shot--on our board, we may take him, but otherwise NO. Even if he is the highest rated, I think Dallas would very, very seriously try to move down!

Our CBs are still younger than our WRs and Newman isn't going to be going anywhere yet. We're talking 3 positions versus two. On top of this I haven't said ignore CB, I've simply said WR is a greater need. There is a difference. You've said nothing to disprove this.

You say WR is a greater need and you base it on age and uncertainty at the position. I countered that by pointing out, that age is also a factor with our CB's. The depth with 35 year old Aaron Glenn at CB, is not as good as the depth Crayton provides at WR. I also pointed out that Newman's contract will be up at the end of the year. You wanna talk about uncertainty?....well signing Newman to a long term contract, is going to be easier said than done IMO. You can already expect "Nate Clements" type of money to be discussed and demanded by his agent.

Henry has been banged up lately and has missed games since arriving in Dallas. There was even talk about him moving to FS and for good reason. Henry will definitely not be resigned and replacing him with Reeves or Jones is a joke!

As for the 35 year old Aaron Glenn, he might not even make the 53 man roster this year.

Crayton, but what does that have to do with anything. His talent level isn't anywhere near on par with Newman's. Hell his potential doesn't even come close to what Newman is already worth.

Are you saying we need to let Newman leave when his contract is up? I have no idea where you are going with this.

Yes you do.

You brought Crayton up, saying he only signed for one year. Basically, saying that Crayton is a one and done deal. I countered that, by saying the same can be said about Newman and trying to resign him to a long term contract. Neither is a sure thing to be a Cowboy in 2008, but one thing is for sure....Crayton will be easier to sign long term than Newman.

I want Newman back in 2008, but if he wants "Nate Clements" type of money he's gonna be disappointed IMO.

I don't agree. I think they are equal. That makes age of starters and potential of backups a higher consideration.

I don't think they are equal. I think any CB over 30 is more of a liability, than any WR over 30. The potential of backups at WR is far better than at CB at this time. I can't believe you are trying to dispute this....talk about turning a blind eye.

A stronger pass rush can help the coverage.

Yes, a stronger pass rush can help our secondary. The thing is, we've already drafted a 1st round DE and 2 1st round OLB in the past 2 years. We need to draft a starting CB in the 1st round, to take over for the 31 year old Henry, whose days are numbered in Dallas. I'd love to have Newman locked up again long term, but that's up to Jerry. I only mentioned Romo before, because his big contract could possibly hinder Newman's big contract too. Like I've said before, Henry's age and performance and Newman's big contract dreams are major obstacles to remain Cowboys in 2008.

Nothing can create better pass catching than to have better WRs. You could have the most accurate QB in history and if the WR can't catch, can't separate, or can't absorb contact you won't move the chains.

What are you saying...that Owens, Glenn and Crayton can't catch, separate and absorb contact?

You don't wanna go there Hostile.

You don't get a 1,000 yards by not catching, separating and absorbing contact. Owens and Glenn both had a 1,000 yards last year. If Romo had started from game one, who knows how many more catches and TD's this trio could have had....not to mention Witten.

We'll soon find out this year and I can't wait! :)

I never said the offense is in dire straits. I said that given the age of our starting WRs it is an area to address. I'm not under any delusions that we're set at this position for years to come. At CB with Newman I believe we are. I believe Henry can have a bounce back year.

What bleak outlook? I don't see where I'm bleak.

An "area to address" does not equate into a 1st round pick for me. A 1st round pick, should become a starter by mid-season or sooner. I don't see the urgency to draft a WR, when we have one of the best tandems in the league right now and one of the best slot/backups in Crayton as well. Basically, you think we should draft a WR in the 1st round of 2007, so that he can be ready to start in 2008?

You think Henry can have a bounce back year, but why risk that and having another secondary meltdown in December?

Hall, Revis, Wright, Ross, Houston and possibly McCauley can all beat out Henry in camp IMO. Why rely on a 31 year old RCB or a 35 year old slot/backup CB for that matter?

I want a young CB that can come in and simply beat out Henry and that requires a 1st round pick. No receiver (not named Calvin Johnson) is going to beat out Owens as our #1 WR in this draft class. If you're talking about replacing Glenn, than the 1st round is out of the question. You don't replace your #2 WR with a 1st round pick. Although, I'd still rate Glenn as a low 1st round pick, because I think he can play another 3 years at a very high level. Owens with his physique, determination and love for the game, could probably do the same and maybe more.

Great, all that and a sandwich means at least I won't go hungry for one meal. I'll refrain from telling you about the great CBs available next year. That is irrelevant, as is this.

It is relevant, because we don't need a rookie WR this year to become a starter. We have our starters and they just came off stellar seasons. I can't say the same for our secondary and their 24th ranking. Coupled with the hope that Henry will bounce back at 31 (yeah right), lousy depth at CB (Glenn, Reeves, Jones, Butler) and Newman's huge contract looming, this position becomes a major concern.

To think, I haven't even mentioned our newest FS solution yet. This guy (Hamlin) clocked a 4.61 forty at his combine workout in 2003....4 years ago!

Even Roy Williams ran a 4.53 at his combine in 2002. Of course, Roy weighed only 219lbs at the time.

Hostile, if you think our secondary is going to be just fine...you are braver than I am.

That's why they call it an OPINION.
