Who's at Fault? NFL Network or Cable? You Choose

There are so many fans who are frustated at not being able to watch the games that are now on the NFL Network. There is currently a fight between the TimeWarners and CableVisions of the world and the NFL Network over the right to broadcast these games.

The basics of the fight, of course, boils down to money. The NFL wants cable companies to offer the NFL Network to their cable customers as a basic channel ( like ESPN, BET, VH1). The cable companies would pay the NFL Network (the want .70 per) each month per subscriber. You do the math. That's per month.

The Cable companies want to offer the NFL Network as a premium channel and pass the cost off to the customer because the NFL is asking for wayyyyyy too much money to offer it as a basic channel. And now that they have added games to their channel, the price just went up.

Honestly I think the NFL has gotten too arrogant and asking for too much money from the cable companies. But with the new player's agreement they have to recoup some of their losses somehow.

Here are two websites that will allow you to choose Who's at fault and why all of America will not be able to watch America's team tonight.

I say the system in general is at fault. The fact I have to pay for a lot of channels I never watch is broken. The NFL just wants to be included with the ESPNs and QVCs of the world that everyone pays for whether they watch or not. Give me a totally a la carte service and you have my business.

The NFL is at fault, they are the greedy ones. Everything was fine until they just had to start showing games on their network, it's the first step toward pay-per-view.

They continue to bend the fan over and screw them, I for one probably won't pay to watch football in my own livingroom, unless the Cowboys get early 90s good again. If I am a bad fan so be it, but i'm sick and tired of the way Jerry has run the team into the ground the last 10 years and now we have to pay to watch on TV, I don't think so.

Are you as upset when the games are shown on ESPN? If you're not, why not? You're paying for it.

So in your opinion, it is your God given right to watch free football.

Man, some of you act like spoiled brats. Pony up and pay or quit watching. You DO have a choice.

Cable companies can afford it... they have been stealing money for years its about time someone give them the business. I am forced to buy basic cable for my net connection, I dont need cable because I have DTV... But thanks to my cable company I have to pay 50 bucks a month for a cable connection!!!

if the NFL is taking cable companies to the bank and in turn that makes the NFL a better game... I'm all for it! No matter what they are getting my money I would much rather give it to the NFL than some con artist at the cable comp.!!!

where did you get the .70 per customer? if thats all it is they could just raise their rates by one dollar per customer and make extra profit. i don't think anyone would drop cable, or even notice one dollar more. and then they get the ad money too. if it's just.70 per customer then the cable companies are either stupid, or too looking for another cash cow.i hate cable but i do like the internet service.

The NFL may lose its "God given" right to make insane riches off the game if they drive too many of the fans away with this kind of stuff.

Yep, I do have a choice, but right now I am stuck with Time Warner so I am getting scrooooooooooooooooooood out of the game tonight. Lucky for me there is a Hooters within 10 miles.

I have a question for you. I had Directv in the past and really enjoyed it. However, I want an HD DVR and Dish seems to have a better HD package. The receiver they are promoting is the ViP622. CNET seems to love it, but there are some pretty harsh customer reviews. Any of you guys have an opinion of my options? Which is better Dish or Directv? I don't have to pony up for Sunday Ticket since I get all my 'boys games (well almost all, cough Time Warner, cough).

Also, Time Warner was running ads earlier this year saying that I would not miss any games this year.

But, but, the Lifetimes, CSPANs, QVCs, and Christian Channels would never survive unless they are bundled into your package. God bless you and your hard earned dollar for supporting those channels that very few watch.

Did the cable and satellite providers give you a choice in the matter, or seek or opinion when adding those channels?

If I went a la carte, I could probably survive on less than 10 channels, and one would be the NFL Network (and another 4 or 5 could be obtained by rabbit ears strapped to my TV). The problem is that everyone would do that, and there would be no consistent revenue base to allow those fledging channels to survive.

All of us are being screwed by cable and satellite providers whether we like it or not. If I'm going to get screwed, I will at least get all the content that I want, and that includes tonight's game.

God bless America!

i'm willing to bet the cable companies blink first, just like they did with espn.people love their sports, and if they can't get them on cable they will get on the dish.both sides are greedy, but thats the american way. greed is what made this country great. greed is a good thing.
it's not like the cable companies will loose money, actually just the opposite. they get more commercial time to sell, and will simply pocket that and pass the cost on to the consumer.the nfl wants to control their product, as does most companies out there.i wish all games where on free tv but thats just not gonna happen.i don't get the nflnetwork and i wish i did and i would gladly pay more for it given the option. i don't really expect anything for nothing. just be fair and the fans will follow the games and everyone wins. it appears that if the .70 per customer is right then the cable companies are being stupid. who would'nt pay a dolllar a month more for cable to watch year round nfl coverage?

It's remarkable that so many different cable companies are being unreasonable.

Perhaps it's much more likely that there's one individual being the unreasonable stallwart in this transaction?

Cable.

They've been raking people over the coals for years.

But now they competition...DirecTv and they don't like it.

The Cable company's for years fought so the Satellite company's couldn't bring you your local channels. That way they thought and were right to a point that people wouldn't go to Satellite company's and would stay with cable if they couldn't get their local channels.

In other words they didn't want competition.

If the Satellite company's ever straighten out their High speed Internet the Cable company's are going to be in real trouble.

For me I get DirecTv and I have Time-Warner for my Internet and I only pay $20 a month instead of 40 because I told them if they didn't cut my bill I would just go with DSL or DirecTV.

NFL is in the driver's seat here. Cable companies have no power. The public wants NFL football.

NFL is playing hardball right now, and getting fans pissed. Cable companies will cave in.

Book it.

So let me get this straight. Some cable companies have transacted with NFL. Some have not. Some satellite companies have transacted with the NFL. Some have not.

What about this situation leads you to believe that the characteristic of being a cable company leads to unwillingness to negotiate?

Yep and tonight going to be a BIG start. First Cowboy game that people can't watch.

The more that happens...The more pressure that's going to be on the Cable company's.
