Who's at Fault? NFL Network or Cable? You Choose

I have cable which means I don't get to see the Cowboys game tonight and I'm made at my cable company. Like some of you have already posted, I didn't get to decide which channels were included in may basic nor my basic plus but had to pay more to get the 1 channel out of 7 offered. I'd gladly pay more then $.70 per week to get the NFL channel; my cable company periodically raises my fee for no good reason. At least this way I understand/accept I'm getting the product I want.

I loved to get DirectTV but live in condo community which means my whole dish must be inside my walls and not on the outside which is owned by the community thus FTC bars my having it; I could sue but who wants spend that kind of money so I endure--unhappily.

I think NFL fans should complain to the FTC (or is it the FCC) that American taxpayers are had hostage to the cable companies by our inability to have the right to identify those cable channels we wish to see instead of being forced to purchase basic cable which included variety of channels most never view. Enough of an uproar where even one U.S. senator states he will investigate cable company practices should bring them to heal quicker then anything.

For what it's worth, my basic cable includes at least 5-7 Spanish speaking all day channels, 2-4 religious shows, several home shopping networks, etc. I don't think cable companies should be allowed to bundle any more then 1 show from each grouping w/o offering their customer choices. Somebody above mentioned that greed makes our capitalist system go. No, what makes it go and work correctly is when there's competition which drives the market--you know the saying ....a better mousetrip.....but we don't have a free market cause there's no competition. I don't have the right to opt for another cable company but must use the one licensed in my area.

While theogt wastes gas to hit the local sports bar I will pop a cool one with some friends and enjoy the game 10 feet away in my self made sports bar thanks to DirecTV. Thank you DirecTV!

You'll get it one day theogt. Perhaps it won't be until you stop working for that thieving cable company.
Enjoy being holed up in your house. Some people actually like to get outside away from the internet.

Not sure if anyone else has the same situation ,but the only reason I stay with Time Warner cable is because of their Hi Speed Internet service.

I've found that DSL isn't as fast or I would go to that, but their Road runner service is Great.

You used facts, but made no logical argument.

The cable companies won't mind if it's placed on a basic level as long as the contract price is adjusted.

We would like to include the NFL Network in a sports package, along with NBA-TV, Tennis Channel, CSTV (College Sports Television), the Fox Sports digital networks, Fuel, the Outdoor Channel and other specialty sports programming networks.
  • This would allow all of our customers to get the NFL Network if they wanted to without requiring all customers to pay for this expensive programming. We think that is fair for sports fans and for those who are not.
Sure looks like a disagreement to me, since Time warners whole argument is they do not want it on their basic package and you are saying they wont mind it being there

I live in the Austin area, and you can get their high-speed internet and phone without having their cable television service.

The nflnetwork has found many customers willing to pay their current asking price. If they ever gave in to TW and the lot, they would probably tick off those that they have current agreements with and would need to readjust them. Don't see that happening.

Hmm... This would further support my "greedy thieves" argument. Time Warner wants to put it on a premium tier so they can charge for it.. :umm: :laugh2: :laugh1: :lmao2: :lmao:

There are so many fans who are frustated at not being able to watch the games that are now on the NFL Network. There is currently a fight between the TimeWarners and CableVisions of the world and the NFL Network over the right to broadcast these games.

The basics of the fight, of course, boils down to money. The NFL wants cable companies to offer the NFL Network to their cable customers as a basic channel ( like ESPN, BET, VH1). The cable companies would pay the NFL Network (the want .70 per) each month per subscriber. You do the math. That's per month.

The Cable companies want to offer the NFL Network as a premium channel and pass the cost off to the customer because the NFL is asking for wayyyyyy too much money to offer it as a basic channel. And now that they have added games to their channel, the price just went up.

Honestly I think the NFL has gotten too arrogant and asking for too much money from the cable companies. But with the new player's agreement they have to recoup some of their losses somehow.

Here are two websites that will allow you to choose Who's at fault and why all of America will not be able to watch America's team tonight.

or

http://www.nflgetreal.com/

Well who ever is at fault, this sucks. If someone doesnt think they arent paying for football games they are mistaken. Have you ever seen how many commercials they squeeze in during games on FOX CBS and NBC? Believe me the corps. pay for those commercials but they can afford to because they pass the marketing price on to you and me.

I blame the NFL and time warner. Just too greedy. One day, I'll give up TV sports all together. one day..............

To borrow a phrase - "don't hate the playa, hate the game".

NFLN as part of basic service = more potential viewers = higher advertising rates for NFLN broadcasts (more money for the NFL, little or no additional revenue for the cable providers).

NFLN as part of a premium sports package = more subscribers = higher subscription fees for the cable companies (more money for Time Warner et al, but since the total # of viewers would be smaller the NFL would have to settle for lower advertising rates).

Eventually, the parties involved will agree on some sort of compromise. In the meantime, large numbers of football fans will be left out in the cold.

Ain't capitalism grand?

yep. That's what I said when I ditched my local cable company and went DirecTV a year ago.

I made the switch to DirecTV a couple of years ago as well. I'll never go back to cable.

Having said that, I find it hard to fault either side here, it's just the nature of business. I do, however, wish that both sides would stop insulting our intelligence with all this "it's about the viewers" garbage.

Did your cable company inform you that in exchange for carrying NFL Network they receive 300 hours of advertising time on NFL Network? They get to sell commercials on NFL Network, including during our live highly-rated NFL games and keep ALL the revenue from those ad sales? This ensures you the consumer does not have to have costs passed along. The cable company can offset the costs we charge them by selling advertising. This is how 170 other cable companies are doing it so you don’t have to be charged extra.
