Actually what I read, the opposite occured... BP overruled drafting Merriman.

Yeah, I read the same, and I can't really see Jerry liking Ware over Merriman at the time. Merriman was the sexy pick, and we all know how Jerry likes his sexy.

"Most notably, a Cowboys source said, it was Parcells who was overruled on the potential drafting of linebacker Shawne Merriman by Jones in the 2005 draft. The Cowboys took DeMarcus Ware, one pick ahead of Merriman, who was selected by the Chargers."

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but it seems to say Parcells was overruled.

Guess maybe I read it wrong. Hmmm...may be due to information overload.

That said, I don't particularly look at that as a bad thing. To me it just shows that they worked together. Because in that same draft, I remember reading how Jerry wanted to draft Barber before Canty, and they went with Canty first.

I know you were being sarcastic...(See, I can read it even without the smilies sometimes)

But I've always felt that both parties were truthful when they said it was a collective decision regarding personnel.

I agree. I don't think Jerry ever tried to run over Parcells and I don't think Jerry will try it with Phillips. I expect to see Jones working with Ireland and Phillips.

You thought wrong. All anyone said is that Bill had the most control of any HC since Jimmy. No one ever said had had total control and Jerry had none.

Good try though.

No ..... I remember someone saying that Jerry was only GM in the years we did not win the Superbowl ......

:lmao:

You guys should definitely have sex already. All this tension building up can't be good for anyone.

Basically I heard that everyone was split over the Merriman/Ware debate - and then rumors came in that Merriman was going to have the Postons as his agents- and that sank his pick right there.

Please don't let Lacewell anywhere near the groceries. Please. Please.

If Jerry does then why not bring back some of his "other success stories" such as:

QB Coach: Ryan Leaf
OL Coach: Jacob Rogers
DB Coach: Dwayne Goodrich.

I'm just trying to help. It seems like a viable suggestion. Otherwise all that suppression will build up and you could go postal or something. I look out for the post office. ;)

I know the focus here has been on the HC search, but I for one am worried about who's buying the groceries from here on out.

People can slam Parcells for underachieving if they want but noone can debate the team of Parcells and Ireland were a dramatic improvement from when Jerry was in charge of drafting.

The question is, how does it work going forward? I'd be in favor of giving Jeff Ireland a raise and a a change in title and let him run the draft. Thoughts?

I think it will be another version of BIll, Jeff and Jerry, except substitute Wade for Bill, and Jeff gaining more input since he's experienced now
