Thought they were going to wait until after the Super Bowl to announce any coaching changes.

Campo on board?

The Cowboys have called a 2 p.m. press conference at the team's Valley Ranch headquarters to announce the hiring of an assistant coach. Wade Phillips is expected name Cowboys former head coach Dave Campo as his new secondary coach. Campo was previously the Jacksonville Jaguars assistant head coach and worked with the secondary.

Campo interviewed with the Cowboys on Monday.

According to a source, the Cowboys have plucked Dave Campo to their new secondary coach.
The Cowboys were resolute in getting Campo on board, as the Jaguars initially turned down a Dallas request to speak with their assistant head coach. But a second shot at it got the Cowboys the permission they needed, and Campo will return to Valley Ranch.

There will be a press conference at 2 p.m. to welcome him. More in a bit ...

Championship!

Seriously though, the guy did pretty well with not that much secondary talent in Jacksonville, we probably have better guys at #1 and #2 at corner, so I'm interested to see what he can make happen.

He was still on the payroll, but this is the first I'd heard of them denying an interview.

I'm just saying that it beats the notion that Campo is here because Jax thought he sucked

Boy is Roger Goddell going to be pissed.

Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, Eli Manning .... All of the big names at the biggest game of the year being pushed to the back page of the sports section by the return of David Campo to Dallas.

Cue the Rocky theme song.

Don't forget Dave Campo is a pretty good defensive coach/coordinator and secondary coach. He was a secondary coach for Jimmy Johnson at the University of Miami when they won a national championship. He followed him to the Cowboys where again he was a secondary coach from 1989 through 1994 (when they earned a couple more of these :lombardi:). After the 1994 season he was promoted to defensive coordinator through the 1999 season (during which they added another one to their collection :lombardi:).

Oh, I know Campo is a pretty good positional coach, and certainly has had success in the past within that role.

But those 5-11 seasons were rough.

Any way you look at it, it stirs things up and lets Jerry share the spotlight with the Superbowl teams. Jerry likes to stir things up anyway and put out all manner of confusing misinformation and disinformation in the buildup to the draft.

Business as usual going on out at Valley Ranch.

Screw the Pats and screw the G-Men. I love the way Jerry stirs the pot. Get the attention on the Cowboys for a little while.

I also really like this hire. Campo wasn't my first (and maybe even my second) choice but none the less I welcome him back home.

Might also beat the notion that Jerry only turned to Campo as a last resort when all the candidates Wade wanted had been refused.
