Actually, it makes complete sense. Active/gameday roster spots are extremely valuable. You don't double up on similar types of players that are used in exactly the same manner. With Zeke healthy and playing, he's going to get 90% of the carries. It makes no sense to have McFadden active when he brings the same skillset to the table. Morris is a different type of back from those two, so having him active with Elliott makes perfect sense. You're only looking at talent and not tactics. It's the same reason teams don't like to have three possession receivers or three speed receivers on the field at the same time. You need different types of players with different skill sets. McFadden is a more talented and explosive player than Morris. I don't see how anyone can argue otherwise.
DMC is not anything like Zeke........he gets 0 yards or busts it big if the OL blocks it.....no vision or cuts..... don't know who you have been watching

Plus, if you have Morris as the lone back on the field, the defense doesn't have to worry at all about him catching the ball out of the backfield. He just doesn't do that. It makes us much easier to defend if he's the lead back getting the bulk of the carries. I'll be shocked if after the next game or two McFadden isn't getting more carries than Morris. Neither one are going to get the number of carries Elliott got, but I think McFadden will get more than Morris. Maybe I'll be wrong, but I don't think so.

What are the Cowboys’ replacement backs facing these next six games, conceivably, without Elliott? Here’s how the next six opponents are defending the run this season:

Chiefs: 131.1 yards per game (28th); 4.9 yards per carry (29th)
Falcons: 102.1 yards per game (11th); 4.0 yards per carry (16th)
Eagles: 70.4 yards per game (1st); 3.8 yards per carry (12th)
Chargers: 135.1 yards per game (31st); 4.6 yards per carry (28th)
Commanders: 105.1 yards per game (13th); 4.0 yards per carry (18th)
Giants: 120.7 yard per game (23rd); 4.2 yards per carry (20th)

Wrong again. Both are very versatile. They both catch the ball out of the backfield. They are both very good blockers. They are both explosive runners. They don't have the same running style, but if you don't think McFadden and Elliott are much more similar than Morris and Elliott, you haven't been paying attention. I'll leave it at that.

Not bad at all. Only the Eagles are great at stopping the run. Unfortunately that's the game we need to win the most.

He plays every day. Just not on Sunday. I remember the way he ran the ball last year, especially in the Washington game.. he was knocking people out. We will be fine. He will be fine. Its' six games.

"Last year" was a long time ago.

Hard to say; last year was McFad's 2nd year in the system, Morris's first.

Morris may be the workhorse.
McFadden may be the 3rd down and change of pace back.
Smith may be the short yardage, redzone power back.

I've seen things I love from all of them.

We can expect at least 50 yards per week less in the running game without Zeke. It’s gonna be all about Dak and the receivers picking up the slack. Against good defenses I predict the team struggles.

Whoever it is needs to just get 25+ carries each game, even if they're not effective. The committee approach has never worked for the Cowboys, they need a workhorse.

McFadden's best games in college were when they keep feeding him the rock 20+ carries. He literally carried the team to wins, including at eventual national champ LSU in '07.

All jokes and speculation aside. Morris is a damned good runner he just needs rhythm to get into form. We also might need to run a few more read options to hlep with the run game cause although he's a very good back. He's still no zeke.

McFadden is going to get the most carries and, thus, the most yards. Morris fits the ZBS better than DMac, is going to splash here and there, but ultimately will not be utilized the way he needs to be to be effective (high volume, rhythm runner) . If we give Rod Smith the opportunities (doubt it), I think he can have a James Starks type of impact. So again, McFadden will be our lead back for the next 6 games for better or worse. I just worry greatly about using him in the short yardage situations.

If we want to have a shot at winning any of the next 6 games, our coaching staff will HAVE TO ADAPT the game plan to our available players better than they did in 2015. Do I think they're capable of subjugating their egos to do so? The track record points towards: "LOL...adapt? Nah, bro...it's a process. We feel very good about...."

I think they're both going to get carries on run downs. If we mix up the blocking technique then Alf will probably get more touches in zone, McFadden in man.

I also think Rod Smith is going to get quite a few carries. If he can pass protect and at least catch the ball then he'll see more snaps. It's not like the started are pencilled in, if he's the more useful player I could see him getting a lot of snaps.

I do think DMC is primarily the back on third downs. Alf can't really catch and I don't believe he pass protects as well as Darren. Rod could compete here possibly.

They should be fresh legs at least.
