Im going with Peyton Manning, Kobi Bryant and Lance armstrong .
Now aren't you complaining in another thread about "athletic ability" and what that means? In terms of overall athletic ability, I would take your average Olympic caliber decathalete over any of those guys you just mentioned.

Heck, in terms of pure athletic ability I wouldn't even put Peyton Manning in the top-100 of his own sport. He has nowhere near the overall athleticism of the average RB or WR.

You don't think it takes athletic ability to do what peyton manning does? Playing qb is the hardest position in all of sports period. that and the fact the guy hasn't missed a game all decade.

I never said it doesn't take athletic ability to do what Manning does. Please don't put words in my mouth. But a large part of what makes Peyton Manning so great transcends his athletic ability. Mike Vick actually has a stronger arm than Manning, and can run circles around him too. So according to your own post in the other thread, how can you say Manning is the "Best athlete"?

You're being totally hypocritical here. You have done the exact same thing the AP did when they called Tiger the "Athlete of the Decade". You looked for the most dominant players in their sports, you didn't look primarily at athletic ability.

It takes athletic ability to do what Peyton Manning does, but if he is one of the 3 best and most pure athletes (based solely on athletic ability) of this past decade, then I'm Michael Jordan.

Well then bottom line is we have a disagreement in what makes an athlete and athlete. To me it's not all about how fast you can run, or how high you can jump . It's alot about hand eye cordination, awareness, precision, balance, mental toughness as well . Now to say it takes great athletic ability to hit a stationary white ball into a hole is insane, it doesnt ... but to say to throw a 45 yard pass on the money, while avoiding 300 lb lineman , and 240 lb line backers coming after you does.

My point is... that playing NFL QB takes way more athletic skill then it does for A Golfer to hit a white ball on a beautiful california day.

There is no comparsion of the two.

Tiger Woods
Lance Armstrong
Michael Phelps

List them in any order you like. Those would probably be my three.

Well, gee, when you start taking that criteria all of a sudden Tiger Woods rises up a heck of a lot higher than you give him credit for in the other thread, doesn't he? You want to incude "hand eye cordination, awareness, precision, balance, mental toughness" but still consider "90 percent of the players in the NFL, 100 Percent Nba, and 90 percent MLB are better athlete's" than Woods?

Gimme a break.

I would say hitting a white ball into a hole takes hand eye cordination, awareness, precision, balance, and mental toughness. Wouldn't you?

Interesting. So you talk about hand/eye cordination, awareness, precision, balance, mental toughness and then you act like none of that goes into playing golf at the highest level.

Playing golf at the level Tiger does takes the absolute highest levels of every one of those attributes.

So either you don't want them using those attributes, and you want them using running, jumping, cutting, etc to decide the best athlete or you want them taking into account all the things you just mentioned there. You can't cherry pick which ones you want to count and not count cause you don't like Tiger being the athlete of the decade.

The whole question of Golfers being athlets is funny to me. I mean, as much money as is in the game of golf, you would think that all of these young premium athletes running around would try to pick up a golf club and cash in, so to speak. I mean, it's possible to win more money in one tournament then many of these guys can make in a full season of work. I wonder why all the Kobi Bryants and the Michael Crabtrees of the world are not just beating the crap out of all these old guys at every event?

Golf is an Old man sport period. The reason why There making a big deal out of tiger woods is to make the 30-40 and the unathletic feeel better about getting older, and not having much athletic ability . Golf to me is no better then shooting pool or bowling really. Making Tiger Woods the athlete of the decade is like making Ralph at the local bowling alley the best athlete in town. It's a complete Joke.

You don't think it takes much hand eye coordination to hit a stationary ball 300 yards in a straight direction?

Do you realize that hitting the ball at an angle of just a half a degree incorrectly will usually be the difference between the fairway and the rough (or worse)?

Dude, you're just humiliating yourself at this point. Please keep it up.

But to hit it exactly correctly so that it lands in just the right spot, or least hit is more correctly than all your competitors so that you can score the hole in the fewest strokes?

Anyway, using a more strict definition of "athlete" my top 3:

1. Usain Bolt
2. Lance Armstrong
3. Roger Federer

Noted. But then you can't possibly put Peyton Manning on you list. He's not very fast, strong, or balanced compared to most other guys out there.

Rogah your obviously an older man who likes to play Golf. I was a caddy for 2 summers in college, and what I saw were a bunch of rich drunken old man who had no athletic ability at all, and where to lazy to find there own ball in the bushes.

Tiger Woods is a product of the Media, a cash cow, to give life to a dying pitiful sport.

Do you agree that there is probably more money to be made in Golf then just about any other sport if you win?

It's WAYYYYY easier to throw/catch a football than to hit a golf ball 200+ yds and straight or hit a 60yd shot from the rough on to the green within feet of the pin. Of all the sports I've played, golf is the hardest to get good at.
