Why are they not opening more cap space?

We need players at so many positions. You can’t fill with 6 draft picks??? Wake up. Free like 25 million and sign best lb/dl/ol. Then focus best player round 1 and get rb/wr in rounds 2-3. Dumb and dumber are way too passive.

The Cowboys will do that. But since they never spend on Day One of free agency there is no need to do this just yet. It's just how they've done business for years and years now.

Don't worry, Dallas will sign players. Then each signing will be met with dozens of pages here of snarky comments since they aren't the big names everybody wants.

Why wait. Get space ready. They should have known weeks ago who to target and get their players early. They are not aggressive. Horrible way to manage. At least be aggressive.

“Freeing cap space” isn’t free.

We’ve kicked those cans down the road before and it always ends up coming due.

Same folks who want the team to sign massive free agent contracts often times are the same ones who then lose their minds over contracts that don’t work out.

I’m good with not extending Dak for now but that would be the most straightforward way to “free cap space”.

Because they never spend early in free agency. They haven't since they got Brandon Carr back in 2012. So they'll open the cap space to sign second-level free agents when they need to. You're right, they are not aggressive.

Because its the one thing that may force Dak to sign the contract now. If we made the free agency signings what's the rush for Dak to sign, he may as well leave it to next season, hit the market and get paid even more....oh and pick up his $34m this year.

Why not clear the space ahead of free agency? Even if you aren’t spending it all why wait

What free agents have the Cowboys signed the last few years? James Washington, Dante Fowler, Ryan Nall, Ronald Jones, Edoga....other than resigning their own when is the last time they've gotten any impactful free agent? I think fans have the right to make snarky comments given the bleeding of talent we've had the last few years.

Truth.

Except for Dak. He's gotta go.

2024 is a rebuild.

You're right. But at the risk of sounding like a homer this team has still gone 12-5 three years in a row. In the regular season, over this time span only one team- the Chiefs- have more wins than Dallas' 36. They have 37.

Few teams that have gone crazy in free agency have seen it pay off. We can argue the Cowboys are going too far in the opposite direction, but they have built a successful team (sans playoffs) this way.

There's a difference in signing players and signing players that will be an upgrade. Yeah, we can sign some guys to 1 or 2 yr contracts on the downside of their careers, or other aging/bargain basement players who will soon be released. And we will likely get much of the same results we've gotten for the last couple of decades.

I don’t think anyone can say it’s a rebuild.

If they hold the line and don’t extend Dak and don’t go crazy and spend every possible dime in free agency, then all that will be accomplished is a holding pattern preparing for a rebuild that begins in 25.

A true rebuild isn’t possible until they move on from Dak. That’s just the way the money and the teams makeup is built.

Unfortunately this is what the Cowboys have become. They don't use free agency to upgrade, they use it to patch holes. They put all their faith in the draft and their ability to develop guys and keep their own.

I know it sucks to see every team add players while Dallas just loses them, but it's been this way at least the past ten years now.
