Why are we still in salary cap hell?

I don't think I'd do a thing with him. Let him finish out the last year of his deal and see if he still wants to play. If he does, then we can start talking reduced rates.

There are other contracts of younger players we can touch if we want to create cap room.

See if he still wants to play? Let him walk. We need to get younger and more athletic at that position. It really opens up your offense. Look at the Pats with Gronk and Bennett. Witten has did all he could here. He'll go into the Ring of Honor but the Pats do it the right way. They let go of players before they start declining. They aren't in the business of handing out charity contracts because that player has tenure. I love Witten for his time here but we need to go a different route at TE after the 17 season. Unless he will play for a substantial paycut to what he's making now.

Hopefully Swaim when he gets healthy can keep developing. And fill that void by 2018. Find a true #2 WR and you will really see this offense open up even more. TWill is not even close to a true 2. He's more of a 3. You can find a TWill anywhere. He's JAG.

Witten remains the best tight end on this team and it isn't even close. He was sixth in the league in catches among tight ends and 13th in first downs. He also was 13th in catches of 20-plus yards.

His numbers are not all that different than they were 10 years ago because his game is built on craftiness instead of speed. I don't understand why his value is so underestimated here. Replacing him is not going to be easy and for as long as he wants to play, because his game doesn't really change, Dallas should be happy to have him.
