Let's try an explanation of why you place a claim on being a Dallas Cowboys fan...(some might have to admit that they just like insulting other fans and complaining)

CowboysZone ULTIMATE Fan
Because in the sixties my father was a die hard Giants fan, one day I saw the team the giants were playing had a neat star on their helmet and blue unis, I liked them a lot. Then #22 smoked the giants defense for a huge bomb and I though it was the coolest thing I ever saw:) That did it. Then the ice bowl sealed it.

I became a Cowboys fan back in 1960. Texas didn't have a professional football team then, and I leaned towards the old NFL when teams came up in both Dallas and Houston.

Even though Houston's first draft pick, Sid Blanks, came from Texas A&I, I chose the Cowboys. That first season was tough, on an eleven year old fan...but I grew with the team.

The growth of Bob Lilly gave me a person to focus upon, but I had great memories of 'the General' Eddie LeBaron. I loved watching the shoulder pad stars bounce around the field and marveled at the exploits of Don Perkins.

Tom Landry,..what can a fan wish for there? He was grand and good, both.

Thank goodness that owner, Murchison, had deep financial pockets. It took that to give opportunity for Tom Landry to grow a valid team in Dallas. A vote of confidence is not lost on this fan, at least...as after some growth years, the team started to win.

Then, the media complaint was, that the team was forever the princess and never the queen...just couldn't win a 'Big' game. Sound familiar?

Nineteen straight seasons in the playoffs, pretty well established our Cowboys in NFL history and acclaim.

The old core of management for the team, were set closer to cash flow than memories, and made it a condition of purchase in a change of actual ownership, that Tom Landry had to be left out of the change. They set the legacy for Jerry Jones, in his coming into ownership. That part was taken out of his hands...and this Jerry resented somewhat. He had to live with the media sharks that lived in and around Dallas, following the assassination of President Kennedy.

Jerry was loyal to Jimmy Johnson, coming into the actual purchase. Together, they forged what quickly became a NFL dynasty. But Jimmy was possessive of his role and desire to receive all credits...for that, I have regrets. He forced Jerry's hand, by blatantly being disloyal to his team, and the week of the Super Bowl tried to become both GM and Head Coach for Buffalo.
Then, in the celebration of winning the Super Bowl, in front of the media, insulting Jerry Jones on purpose.

There are some things that a man of deep integrity, just doesn't do...Tom Landry wouldn't have, and neither should have Jimmy.

Well, my team loyalties were still intact, and have remained as such, through all the highs and lows....I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan.

When I did good in preschool I would get a star on my papers. Being raised in the Bay Area it was assumed I would like the Raiders or 49ers, so it made perfect logic that a star equals doing good in school so the star in my 6 yr old mind equated to being a good football team. Been a Cowboy fan from that point on.

I was born and raised in the D/FW metroplex. My dad is a diehard Cowboys fan since 1960. I couldn't bring myself to root for any other team.
I never could see how anyone could root for a team they have no local affiliation with. That's why I root for TCU, University of Texas, Texas Rangers and formally the Dallas Mavericks until I dropped them for political reasons and became a Spurs fan.

I grew up in NY, everyone was a GIants fan.
Dallas gear was on sale, so my mom bought me a Dallas Cowboys winter coat.
I've followed them since.

I mean who teases a kindergarten boy about a coat. I've hated the Giants ever since.
Then of all the things I moved to the DFW area ten years ago.

Because I live in Oklahoma, grew up in the late 80's/early 90's, had a strong dislike for the 49ers and couldn't bring myself to be a Bengals fan even though I loved their helmets. Troy being an Oklahoma guy didn't hurt.

Older brother liked the Packers. At 7 years old I sat down to watch the Ice Bowl with him. I saw #22 Bob Hayes and from the Guiness Book of World Records I knew he was the fastest human. He was my 1st favorite player on my favorite team. Chuck Howley came next.
