Why Brad Johnson Was the Right Choice

This is exactly what this board needed ....

it was until the brothers came on board to spew their mindless dribble

Imagine if they had brought in Harrington, Ramsey, or even Plummer. The backup is always the fan favorite when the starter is going thru a bad stretch.
I do think Tony Romo has captured the fans hearts and would get some leeway in the minds and hearts of most. However, patience is a fleeting thing and backup QBs rise in potential faster than a phoenix from the ashes.

Brad Johnson as an elder statesman QB will remind fans more of Vinny or Bledsoe, and by virtue of recent memory we are less likely to have that issue in Dallas.

Yes, even when he was 3rd string. It actually dates back to some comments by Troy Aikman about how helpful Garrett was to him personally. I just did some simple math and started thinking potential coach. I'm not surprised to see him where he is at all. His dad was a really good football mind, and Garrett is smart. Pedigree. (I know that might upset a few folks.)
Why in the hell would that upset anybody? I for one appreciate that our newly-crowned OC has a built-in advantage (in this case being a Coach's Son) over some other Coordinators. That's just good sense.

Agreed, it's right up there with the others.

Not sure why you would retire when you are taking in 2.5 mil a year for holding a clipboard.
I can't predict the future. So please don't think this is what I am doing. It is just a plausible circumstance. Retirement can be forced too. If the 3rd string QB impresses the staff enough they can decide to move on. It does happen.

I don't know why people think a QB approaching 40, contemplating getting out of the game in the near future is preposterous

This is the only Brad Johnson thread that had any substance ....

The rest are just the ramblings of children looking for attention.

I kind of coined the term "pedigree" here and it stirred some drinks the wrong way. I also coined "agenda," so if you don't like that one, blame me.

I happen to agree with you about the worth of him being a son of a football man. Not just a football man, but a highly respected one at that.

His Princeton education doesn't impress me though. Kidding.

Edit: I am not suggesting I didn't get "pedigree" and "agenda" from other sources.

That's true to some degree. But I also know that there are folks who aren't completely sold on Romo. They *hope* he's the guy, but he still has to show it for a little bit long than 10 games. And while he gets some leeway, if the team is really trying to make a push and the D holds up, but Romo's play isn't quite up to snuff, his leash will be shortened tremendously.

That's true.

Based on the Jerry's comments in the latest DMN blog, sounds like the 'boys are going to take a QB in the draft too. I'm extremely excited by the prospect.

I think it is fair of some fans to not be totally sold on Tony Romo yet. He hasn't exactly got skins on the wall just yet though he showed a lot of promise. He's not the strongest armed QB in the NFL, but he has the intangibles to lead a team. He'll gain more and more fans this year if he plays well and the Cowboys live up to the potential. Win it all and he'll be approaching deity status in the eyes of some and many of his doubters will cease to speak up or will change their minds.

I hadn't heard that from Jerry. That is encouraging. If you have a link I'd appreciate it.

A Cougar in Blue?

Beck is such a better fit. You know......uniform-wise.

Which is the best reason to quash all this multi-million-dollar extension talk.

Right. Not at all true.

I would love to be in a position where we have two young, proven starting QBs on this roster.

Here's hoping Romo bounces back this year and we draft a late round QB to develop along the same lines.
