Why can't we just keep Rico for red zone purposes?

I mean why not? We've kept people on active roster who never should be and don't contribute.

He'd be replacing what Dez did, and opening up things for Zeke.

I'm not sure I like going into the redzone and creating plays and executing like Brady.

Stop the fade to Rico, or stop Zeke

It very well could come down to a numbers game. Do we keep extra TE? Extra WR? do we do extra RB? If Rico gets the job can he do the job if injuries need him to be the TE?

So a TE who doesn't block or play ST, on the game day roster for, at best, 3-4 plays a game?

Not gonna happen.

Also that is gearing the defense of what to defend. Inside the 10. Bring in Rico. Not that they have to throw it to him all the time. But if they are inside the 10, he better be able to block. Because they better be using Zeke down there as well. Not the fiasco like last year against the Seahawks.

Rather have a player that contributes more than those 3 or 4 plays. So, yes, does not seem a good way to use a roster spot. If that is all he is able to be used for.

He is gonna have to do more than be a red zone threat. Seems like the staff is giving him this TC and preseason to prove he has improved at his blocking and assignments. His receiving skills aren’t in question but they want a more complete TE. We have been spoiled by having Witten forever.

That is up to Rico..I think if Jarwin, Swain, and Shultzy start coming on, they will do the fade stuff, and block as well. Rico is not that athletic in his lateral movement, Doesnt run tight routes. HE is just taller and now bigger..Its up to him..

Has he proven he's a red zone threat, worthy of a spot?
No it is really absurd to think he is a red zone target because he is 6'7". He is 285 - you might as well say that Byron Jones is a red zone threat because of his vertical! His reach is probably greater
