Why can't we just keep Rico for red zone purposes?

Depends on the route. Fades? Sure because he has to loft it over a DB but quickness in the RZ is better than height with this QB because I think he needs a larger window. That fade to the corner takes precision accuracy because there's not much wiggle room.

And we don't know if Jarwin at 6'5" or Schultz also 6"5" or Swaim at 6'4" can't be that big target when Prescott needs it.

I've not gotten the hype on Gathers from the beginning. So he's tall, the guy hasn't played a down of real football and some keep hoping he'll "get it". They have TE's on the roster that have actually played TE.
Go back to the beer thread! I'm always right!!

Do you want to win or not?? 4th down on the 10 yard line 4th qtr 3 seconds left down 4...

would not mind having an option like him? throw and nothing you can do td.. game over... he'd have a spot on my roster.. they aint stopping everybody if my offense is what it is
If that were true Gronkowski and Kelce would score every time their team was in the RZ. There is something a D can do because they do it every week. If he was as good as you think he could be, and I am not in on that, he would end up being a decoy. He's not the first tall receiver to play the game. Harold Carmichael was a better receiver than he will ever be at 6'8" and they struggled to get the ball to him a lot of the time.

He has to earn a spot on the roster as a TE and one that can be used as a blocker, not some specialty player. You are talking about a player that would probably have the fewest plays of any player and you want a roster spot for that? This isn't that good a team to waste a spot like that.

Time to cut bait. Let him go and just go get David West. The Warriors aren't signing him so he's an UFA.

Man.. Rico is huge. This kid needs to put it all together. Learn the assignments and blocking.

He looks bigger than T-Wills car.
He is a bigun, just not a goodun yet. Like everyone else, I'd love to see him make it because he's a monster and could cause some real matchup problems but how long can he be a project?

And I don't know what the cause is, well, contact is the cause, but these big TE's are sure catching a lot of timeouts with concussions. They've got heads like medicine balls and are nice big targets.

Whether we can or can't afford to keep Rico is a pregnant question. On one hand, he bears promise to prove useful in certain circumstances, such as his red zone ability to score. In others, such as route running and blocking, there's work to be done. His future is really hanging on the prospects of his ability to overcome his deficiencies in those areas. It's likely to boil down to a question of numbers when the final cuts are made. There's lotsa talent in house to be weighed this year. Good luck to him in that respect -- he may very well need a big break from the looks of things, imho.

Do you want to win or not?

A player who can do one thing will help you only in rare situations. One who can do multiple things is going to be infinitely more help.

Why make any player earn a spot on the team? We should just give them a spot because they want it, or just because we want to. Who cares about winning? This is about making players feel wanted, appreciated and loved. This team is not nearly empathetic enough. We should give him a mega contract while we are at it, just to show a vote of confidence, because that's how you build a winning team.
