Why Charles Harris makes sense to Dallas

Good stuff in this thread, thanks everyone!

Pass rush is the weakest area of the Cowboys.

With one they probably win the last 2 playoff games against GB.

Without one, they lost both.
Who plays CB for them? All they have right now is Brown and a injury plagued Scandrick.

I go back and forth on Harris, heard that he is a Marrinelli type guy. He does have moves and will be interesting to see what his weight really is # 235 - # 255 is what I keep seeing. For some reason, I also like me some Lawson - and it would be an interesting argument over who has the upside

At 28 I think I'd be happy with either Lawson or Harris.

But I'd be happier with Lawson. Harris is quick, but I worry about his weight.

That quickness could subside if he packs on the weight he'll need in the NFL.

Can't wait for the combine to get some more answers on these guys.

They actually got to Rodgers when they brought pressure this last playoff game. They lost because of bad coverage on the final play, and Irving being held by 3 Packers linemen.

They got pressure by blitzing their corners and safeties. On the final play, because we couldn't get pressure with our front four, our secondary couldn't cover for like 15 seconds. No secondary can cover that long if there's no pass rush.

The secondary was actually a strength of the Cowboys this year. It was the pass rush that did us in.

We didn't rush 4 on the final play.

Fair enough. But we weren't getting pressure with our front four the entire game. And our secondary had been the strongest unit on our team. We need a pass rush.
We'll get 2-3 new d line players, none being a high priced free agent. That's all I've been saying.

I'm on record as wanting 1 of Harris, Njoku, Ross, Charlton or Adoree Jackson. I don't want anyone else at 28 besides a guy like Barnett who I doubt falls.
Of those... give me Ross first and Harris second. Then Njoku, Charlton and last A Jackson.

I think Ross is going to be dynamite and I like Harris somewhat.

The good thing about the current Front Office of the Cowboys is that they don't reach. If they have a WR or CB ranked well ahead of any DE left... they'll take the BPA... which I totally agree with.

So if Harris is there and Dallas has a CB and a WR both ranked well above him... you think they should go ahead and draft Harris?

I'd be mad if Dallas did have a cb or wr ranked (way) above him, because I wouldn't agree with the difference. I'm actually back to wanting Harris as the choice anyway. There's no way we're getting a good rde after 28 and there will be good corners in later rounds. I don't think there is any cb or wr available at 28 that is WAY better than Harris, Basham or Takk so I'm hoping one of those three are the pick in that order even though I still think Adoree will be a pro bowl cb by year 2

"If you have perused any mock drafts recently, you have likely seen an interesting trend at the end of the first round.

The Dallas Cowboys have overwhelmingly been tabbed to take Missouri defensive end Charles Harris.

Now, the interesting part is not that they took a defensive end, as that is the biggest need currently permeating Dallas’ roster. The compelling part is that Harris was the defensive end that they were projected to take.

The Missouri defensive end certainly has talent, it’s impossible to deny that, but does his talent warrant the premium pick it would take to get him?

Just like your least-favorite couple’s relationship status, the answer to that question is: it’s complicated.

The question is not just whether Harris has a skill set worthy of the 28th pick in a vacuum, it is how his skill set fits in with the Cowboys and how that translates in comparison with others who could be there at the 28th overall pick."

What if you like a WR or CB that is sitting there and they draft Harris instead?
We won't know unless they leak the draft board again this year.
I just think WR won't help this defense. And there are several FA's we could bring in.

Scoring helps this defense also. If Williams walks, we have to get a suitable replacement.

And we're in need of a CB as well, i don't get why people think DL is more important.

Because great defences have always been built on a great DL/front 7 and safety play. Give me the defense with a great pass rush and average secondary any day over the opposite. CBs are way over rated by most fans.

Secondary play is far more about knowing your responsibilities, being where you need to be, knowing what the offense is trying to do in situations, and sure tackling than it is about elite athleticism

NE didn't shut down the vaunted Atlanta offense in the second half of the SB because of their great CBs

True. But I think we should plan on signing one, if that falls through, I still prefer to improve our defense in the first few rounds in the draft.

Wouldn't be shocked to see Carlton, Lawson, McKinnley, and Harris all go before #28. We may be looking at CB or WR when our number comes up.

Yep....reality sucks. Might have to trade up to 17ish to get Harris. Pass rushers are like gold in the draft.
