He gave up a grand total of 3 sacks in 2017 against a true gauntlet-La’el is not good - he’s an average at best at RT. Watch how many times he gets beat to the outside. I’m setting the over under at 12.
Yeah, maybe. He’s a fish out of water at RT though. He fights it waaaay more than a natural RT would. He aint that bad, hes been a complete steal
There is merit to your argument.
A certain amount of this (from the Cowboys perspective) is "How high of a ceiling does this player have?"
If he becomes a top 5 (or even top 10) guy this season, then he's going to be paid by someone else like a #1 guy in free agency. That's how this works. The Bills have the highest paid center in the game now but he was arguably maybe top-10 at best for KC last year. Some desperate team will always bend over for good (but not great) talent.
You either try to sign these guys early before they peak or you'll have to pay beyond their value after they peak.
No one is going by the national media take. Can you point to one data set that shows alarm Collins is one of the better tackles in football? I can point you to a data set that shows he is average.Well, unlike the you and a host of others, I know my limitations. QB and RB are really the only positions us fans can be fairly accurate on. For the QB position, many posters however are influenced what the national media take is as long as it’s negative.
And you think the Bills did the smart thing and KC should have overpaid to keep this guy? I would argue KC is the smarter team and made a better decision.
Did we improve re-signing Collins? Nope All we accomplished today was locking down a mediocre RT and making his agent very happy.
Hmm, yup sounds about right. Well hopefully zeke gets the pen out. Or else by week 8 we are gonna be inking in maher for 5 years 50 million
Hate on bro.No one is going by the national media take. Can you point to one data set that shows alarm Collins is one of the better tackles in football? I can point you to a data set that shows he is average.
No, if anything the Bills did the what they feel they needed to do and there will always be a team out there that will overpay.
The reports on Collins from this past training camp have been very good.
Let's revisit this at the end the season to see where he's at in his development.
And the Chiefs... Well they have to replace a top-15 center which isn't going to be easy.
La'El isn't a rookie. He's a 5th year pro and hasn't flashed elite potential as a right tackle. On a second contract , you pay based on what the player has done not what you HOPE they will do. Then again, nobody has ever accused this front office of being savvy.
we only know what the Jones' let us know. I had heard nothing about Colins, but that doesnt mean they werent working on this for a couple months. This is another example of Jerry being loyal to people he feels treated him well.Did zeke have anything to do with this? Did he demand that la'el be paid now? Just seems odd, did we expect collins to get a long term, like this instant? Before or just before zeke may get his multi year deal? Hmm I'm thinking zeke said something to the likes of "la'el needs to be paid, i feel comfortable running behind him." "If I'm gonna take any less then X, la'el needs to get paid." And so on so forth with demands that I can only imagine were said and denied or accepted by the Jones's...lol. Who knows
Jerry could see where the cap is headed... and in 2 years, this may look like a cheap bargain. Most money guaranteed a right tackle in NFL history. Very bizarre signing. Pretty sure Collins is not one the top 10 right tackles in the NFL.
Maybe it’s because he’s good.
