he'll get signed because there isn't a better option.
unless jerry wants to roll the dice on a rookie next year...we don't have a better option.
we might have if we had a football GM who would have been drafting QBs in each draft...regardless of the starter.
to have real depth at the position and create competition.
but he's never done that.
sign dak...draft a qb...continue to develop trey lance.

ipso-fatso...solved.
How many times does it have to be said around here . . .

LANCE IS NOT A ROOKIE

my point is we shouldn't wait til we need one to draft one.
at one point, coach landry had don meredith, craig morton and roger staubach in his qb room.
and it was like that up and down the roster.
but i'm not expecting it to happen with our gm.
he's never done it and never will.
he'll wait til dak is at the tail end and draft a qb in the 4th or 5th.

9ers had montana and acquired steve young.
pack had favre and drafted rodgers.
9ers had jimmy g and continued at the position.
chiefs had alex smith and drafted mahomes.
giants had simms and drafted hostetler.
and on and on and on.
we should always be drafting qb's...for depth and to create competition.
like coach landry talked about...knowing there is someone behind you good enough to take your spot is a great motivator.
Cowboys have Dak and acquired Trey Lance. I like where you are going with this.

almost all of those, with the exception of 2 were pre salary cap. The Niners were paying both Young and Montana HUGE money. Salary cap doesnt allow a team with an all pro qb to use a first rd pick on somone tat is going to sit.
Alex Smith was at the end of his career, and was NEVEr a franchise QB.
Fare was at the end also and was threateing to retire every year, ONLY reason they went in on Rodgers.... and it was smart. But lie I said, start listing the teams of the last 20 years.

Using pre cap and post cap teams as examples is comparing apples to ranges.
Packers got lucky when Rodgers dropped in the draft. They almost had to take him

.he will wait til he has completely moved on from dak then address it seriously.
Interesting . . . They addressed it last year and Mr. "Almost MVP" still a lame duck. You may be on to something

Yes, because Dak is older and you can train the new young QB for basically peanuts. The Eagles did that very thing ...they signed Wentz and in the same offseason drafted Hurts. You laugh, but their front office is admired just a tad more than ours.
I am jealous that they signed Barkley. That man is a difference maker. He is the reason they went on that run a few years ago

The difference here in Dallas is our ownership and FO apparently have maintained they were totally content with Prescott despite the fans frustrations and disappointment in playoffs.

It’s the only explanation not drafting a potential heir apparent or challenger .
Then Green Bay happened. Jerry teary eyed is not a good look

1. Path of least resistance… both sides want the status quo, and the easiest decision for JJ to make is to extend and cross his fingers that Dak will come thru this time

2. No alternative at QB… if there was a viable option to take the torch from Dak on the roster, maybe this decision gets harder. The fact is JJ and the FO have failed to develop anyone in the wings to take the wheel, so extending Dak is inevitable IMO

3. Scape-goat factor… JJ loves his image. Paying Dak makes him look like the good guy and the pressure to deliver shifts over to Dak to make it happen. If Dallas fails to win a SB with Dak, Prescott goes down as a (highly paid) failure.

4. Morale boost…. Signing Dak creates a boost to team morale and establishes some positive press. JJ loves to make a splash and steal headlines. Extension incoming IMO

For the record, I don’t think the chances of Dak winning a SB are very good. Put it at 25%. That said, he is our best shot considering where we are roster wise.

I am preparing for another 4 years of futility and will hope against hope things will break our way.
Don't forget that Jerry is weak willed with players he has a relationship with.

Dak gets signed because we can't fathom the stupid thought of starting over!!?? What's the difference between starting over, and not having playoff success?????

wait.... so you think the Eagles thought they had a franchise qb at the time they drafted Hurts?
The steelers thought the same Trubinsky that stunk in Chicago was a franchise qb?
The bears had drafted their "Franchise qb," a few years ago and realized he stunk. Caleb Wiliams was a very highly regarded prospect... they didnt draft williams when they felt they have a franchise qb.

All of those teams were and are playing the QB roulette game that teams have been doing for 20 or more years. And the Steelers are still playing. How was Pickett for them?
How was Fields?
Hell, Hurts has only had 1 solid season out of his 4. So why didnt the Eagles draft a QB this year?
Wy didnt the steelers draft a QB? Seahawks? Jets?
The Eagles drafted one in 2023. They traded draft assets for one in 2024. In addition, they signed a free agent QB in 2024 simply because he was familiar with Moore and he worked with the other three QBs.
