Why did Philly not kick a field goal in 4th quarter?

He's factoring in the risk of giving Dallas the short field on the game tying drive in the next series if he misses the kick. Not the decision I would have made, but it's easy to understand the thought process, given how his defense was playing. I have a bigger issue with his third down play call than I do with him not punting.

These Eagles didn't really give the game away. They were lucky to be in it at that point as it was. Had we not been shooting ourselves in the feet all night, it wouldn't have been all that close.

As it is, Pederson pretty obviously doesn't have a lot of trust in his team right now. He's in year one of his coaching regime, with a rookie QB he obviously doesn't trust to put the ball downfield. His RBs have fumble problems, his OC has been both shaky and hurt. His OTs are old or suspended, his WRs can't catch. He wants to keep the games close, the scores low, and the passes near the line of scrimmage. Rolling the dice looks like a good idea in retrospect when playing it safe doesn't work out, but all night the only place they were taking risks was on defense with their coverages on Dez.
