Why did Philly not kick a field goal in 4th quarter?

No question. It was a gift. The Cowboys were lucky to win that game.

Pederson was absolutely horrid. Sure, the FG could have been no good; sure, using those TO's at the end of regulation might not have led to points; sure, ... etc.

But damn. You can't just fold up your tent every time and expect good things to happen.

Dude had hit TWO 55 yards, but they didn't trust him to hit a 53 harder and put the game away?? Garrett coached to win - their coach coached not to lose!

All knowing coaches know everyyyything... How dare us fans ever question their decisions.

Because going into the game, the Eagles' defense had allowed an average of 4.3 points per game in the 2nd half. Why would they fear a rookie QB who was having a bad game anyway? Just punt it down to the 10 and make the Cowboys go 90 yards.

After the penalty brought back Zeke's 60-yard run and set up a 1st and 20 at the 12, Schwartz was probably laughing.

I actually disagree with most of you, given how the game was going, punting was the best decision. Dallas had not gone the length of the field since the second drive, so did not want to give them a short field in that situation. I know conventional wisdom says the FG would have put the game out of reach, mainly because the game ended up going to over time, however, after the score was tied, each team still had a chance to win the game in regulation and just could not move the ball. Had he kicked the FG and missed, just as many people would be saying it was stupid to give Dallas a short field and momentum.

Kicking a long distance before halftime is a bit different than at that stage of the game. Dak had been off most of the night and Philly defense was playing good. Peterson put the game in the hands of his defense. The Big play was that of Lee whose tackle for a loss made a mid range FG into a long range FG.

they talked about that playcall on the radio here in philly allllll day yesterday. not sure why they call a play with the potential to lose that many yards, but sure glad Lee blew it up.

Garrett selfishly took the entire big balls allotment for the night. Philly coached like scared little girls most of the game. I really expected more agression on 4th downs and I couldn't believe they didnt kick that fg.

Eagles HC said he didn't regret not kicking the FG there. Cited the defense playing well all night and trusting them.

He did say he regretted not going for it on 4th and 1 after the roughing the kicker penalty on the 1st quarter FG, though.

Their defense was playing great, and their kicker is historically NOT great, so counting on him to hit two 50+ yarders was not a guarantee. They figured they pin the Cowboys with a punt and their defense finishes the job.

It's easy to second guess when your decisions don't work.

Garrett right now looks like a genius for the fake punt and the 4th and 1, but if either one fails and we lost the game he's the guy getting the coaching criticism.

Punting is "by the book" but the book is wrong......punting gives the HC cover but it decreases the chance of winning......a punt is still a just turnover.....field position was irrelevant at that point

Because their coach is a gelding.

Just like he was in the first quarter when he failed to go for it on 4th and 1.

Just like he was at the end of the second half, when he let time run out rather than ultimately force the Cowboys to run plays and punt it to Darren Sproles.

And I couldn't be happier.

I think that was a mistake. He had hit the 55 yarder 2 times in a row. I would have given him the shot.

It makes no sense to me why Philly didn't call time out at the end of regulation. They get a 10 yard sack and Dallas is back at their 18. Even if they give up yards on 3rd down they are getting the ball back with 20 seconds with Darren Sproles returning the kick. If they kick it OOB like they had been all night you probably get the ball back near your own 40. It's not hard to go 25 yards in 20 seconds. I wonder if Sproles or someone else was banged up from the previous drive, because I don't see any logic that says just let the clock run out there.

Hubris...overconfidence in his defense...

Any amusing tidbits on Philly sports radio today? I imagine they were pretty butt-hurt, overall.

Again, y'all should get the cbs radio app. It's awesome for us out of the DFW market to get to listen to all the Dallas shows. As well as to flip to opposing markets like Philly after a big loss. I flip back at forth between that and IHeart all day where you can listen to the Ticket.
