Why Did Romo Not Go for the First Down

You can second guess everything from now until next July when training camp begins. But if the refs didn't blow the call, or if Dez had handled the ball more cleanly so that there would have been no reason for the refs to question it, or if we had executed better other plays where we missed opportunities and made mistakes, we would be talking about how we might beat Seattle next week.

Troy Aikman is nowhere near as talented as tony Romo. And the fact the team he should be grateful for having the pleasure to be on won three Super Bowls has nothing to do with that.

If tony romo was the Qb of the Dallas cowboys between 1989-1998 then we win more than 3 SBs

Dude....

I love me some Romo. I'm probably the biggest Romo fan on the planet but....What?

Did you even see Troy Aikman play?

You know you can love and respect Romo without slapping Troy Aikman in the face and acting like he was some lucky, journeyman, QB who just happened to be along for the ride in Dallas.

When you see Dez one-on-one on the outside, you take your shot. You don't think, "Hmm, maybe if I wait around here in the pocket while I'm being blitzed and look around a little more, I'll see somebody else open."

thank you!
This hind site stuff in a vacuum is beyond silly.

I trust Dez in one on one coverage over anything. I don't care if its 4th and 1. If Dez is one on one and single covered? I'll live and die with it. I didn't think the Cowboys or Garrett were that risky. They showed me this year though Garrett is about taking a game and not letting it come to him.

Who cares who he threw it to? The pass was PERFECT, if you need someone to blame, blame Dez for not completing the catch. I feel so dirty being on the side of Romo-defense, but there's no blaming the guy today, you can't throw that pass any better.

Maybe Aikman was being generous and humble but Aikman has made similar statements. IMO, if you replace Romo with Aikman....i'm not too sure if they still don't get 3 rings.

It's nice to have you. Other than being injured I don't see any thing Romo should be blamed for this season.

Romo is/more was reckless with the ball than Troy. He wouldn't have survived Jimmy.

Romo busted their arse and went to the uncoverable and obvious option...and nailed it.

Totally agree. Romo made an aggressive play and completed one of the more remarkable throws-and-catches that we have seen in our team's history.

Who knows if Beasley would have been deemed to have made a "football move" on an easier catch over the middle.

If we get the same Romo next year, with some key roster improvements in the off-season, we're a contender next year. If he regresses to his old self, it won't matter what we do this off-season.

On 4th down you go for the first down. Play the percentages. All or nothing on a deep pass is too risky.

This is where I would disagree with that philosophy. IMHO, the goal should be to get the first down and have an opportunity at four more downs.

I agree with you
Romo played a good game but that was the wrong call

What was Romo thinking by going for it all ??? He had a wide open Cole Beasley that would have produced a first down for the Cowboys.

Yes what was Romo thinking?
We on our couches drinking mountain dew, smug in our football knolege and if I might add, probably sitting in 75 degree comfort (that is what ah set when the propane tank is full) and munching them fancy pigs in a trisket and yogurt the doctor say you have to eat -- well we can second guess, huh.

Romo has not been Mr. Playoff Clutz but he gets my vote because he be trying to do his best.
So we can second guess but he tried and we reclined after the play on the comfortable rented couch.

Ehhhh. I agree with the OP. This is the same as the Lions game last week. 3rd and 1 and you throw a pass about 18 yards? Very risky. Yes, it was a perfect pass and Dez came up with it but I thought the play call was too risky for my taste. But I don't get paid to make these decisions.

I take the very simple catch, 1st down and you get 4 more downs to play around with. But everyone has their own philosophy.

For the first time in the game, they had an extra guy in the box vs the run or short pass. No way anyone can say for sure we would have converted a 1st down there, so do not assume it.

Romo and Dez nailed their butt and got robbed...period.

He went for Dez because Dez had one on one coverage, that he wasn't getting much of, and you always take the play to your best player when they give you the coverage you're looking for.

It was the right call.

No it was a stupid call and it was not a catch. No controversial call at all

you get the first down and then go for the big play

If that catch isn't overturned, I'm pretty sure that spot IS a 1st down.
