Why did Terry Glenn...

Sorry if this was already discussed, but

Why did Terry Glenn pull up after catching that terrific bomb from Bledsoe? He had a clear lane to the endzone, but appeared to stop so that the defense could catch up. I never saw that until I watched Calico's video.

I saw that too.

It was a stupid move. He had his man beat. I think he thought the guy was a little closer and that he could juke him past so he could go house.

He shoulda kept running.

I think he anticipated the defender was closer than he was and tried a stop because he sensed the guy would over pursue.

I thought the same thing when watching it live. I think that he didn't realize he had beaten his man as badly as he had.

That said, I still think he would have gotten tackled around the same spot after rewatching it.

I think that he didn't know exactly where he was on the field. He may have thought the defender was closer then he was but he also may have thought that the sideline was also closer.

At first i thought that... but after a few replays it seemed the 2nd deeper defender had the angle on him, so he pulled up in hopes that BOTH the defenders would overpersue and he could cut back to the middle.

It was a gamble, but the play was already big enough and he only would have gotten 5-10 more yards had he not cut. By cutting he had a shot to go all the way but it didn't work out.

But trust me... defender #2 had the angle.

I'm still not sure... Glenn has pretty good speed and he caught the ball in stride. I've watched it about 15 times and from that angle it appears that the second defender would not catch up if Glenn kept running with about 25 yards left.

Glenn would have gained 5 to 10 yards easy if he kept running. Defender #2 may have had the angle on him, but Terry could have broken his tackle and scored. Just kidding. I know Terry doesn't break tackles.

It was a good and strange play. I can't figure out why he stopped running, but it was already a big play at the time and Dallas took advantage of it by scoring. I actually thought at the time that Glenn must owe some bookie money and didn't try to score on purpose.

Guys rewatch the replay where it shows the angle in front of Glenn and the defender. Terry looks out of the corner of his eye and see's the guys shadow and stops to fake him out.

If Glenn never breaks stride on that catch, I don't think there's any way either of those guys could have caught him. I think it's 6.

Fake out the guy or the shadow?

Isn't it funny how people can look at the same thing and come to such different conclusions.

I didn't think there was any way that he could have scored by trying to outrun the defenders to the endzone.

Oh yeah. Haven't you ever heard of this before Joseephuss? It's called the Peter Pan syndrom.

I think you are right. And all this time I thought Peter Pan syndrome was not wanting to grow up. Isn't that what Mick Jagger is suffering from? Although dating and fooling around with 20 something old women isn't really suffering.

Yes, Jay Cee, it is. I will also say that I've eaten my fair share of humble pie on these deals as well.

I am not above being out of my gorde on occasion.

With his speed I think he would have made it within the 5 yard line...the defenders did have the angle, I also think Glenn thought they were closer then they were at the time of the catch.

Athletes are instinctive and make quick reactions. Glenn saw the shadow and made a move. He did not turn around enough to see the player. The sun was coming from their backs so the shadow made the guy look closer than he was.

I think he got saw the defender's shadow and thought the player was a lot closer than he was.
