Why didn't Hooker try to advance that interception?

Wrong.

Too much a risk to turn the ball over, when you're up two scores.
The Rams got the ball with enough time to score a TD and recover an onside kick. It was pure stupidity to just go down like that and kill the clock and give up field position.

So far no one has given a legitimate reason not to advance that interception.

They have, you're just refusing delivery.

Players are taught in that situation, and rightly so, that possession is priority one. Trying to return for more yardage is just begging Rams to try and strip the ball.

The Cowboys were up two scores late. Hooker did the right thing. Seems weird having to explain this to someone who has been watching football for a long time.

I explained why that's not a legitimate reason.

Here are the highlights - go to 9:28 - you can tell is biggest priority was possessing the ball, you can tell that by the way he's cradling it.
Then he looks like he was going to get up but a Rams players comes and touches him down - now could he have gotten up faster?

Yes he could but he his first thought was to make sure he secured the ball which you can't really kill him for.
