Why didn't they try Wilson at MLB?

Draft measurements:
Wilson: 6-0, 245
Hitchens: 6-0, 240
Lee: 6-2, 236

They really should have tried Wilson at MLB. They could have used Jaylon on the 15% of snaps where they use 3 LBs with Jaylon either playing SLB or Wilson moving to SLB on those snaps and Jaylon playing MLB.

I don't understand either. Especially vs Green Bay, they had more options than vs Rams but kept him at MLB. Maybe Jaylon showing more in video room and practice than he's showing when playing. Brain just needs to catch up with legs, or vice versa

Something happened with Wilson in Green Bay. I think he got banged up because Wilber played the SLB snaps in the 2nd half, IIRC.

I really they didn't force the issue with Jaylon because of his draft status.

I think that youthful development was the sinister element used...

Wilson has struck me as a guy who probably is certainly not great but could be a pretty effective LB for us. I am also surprised they didn't try him at MLB.

You mean think outside the box?
we supposedly target LB's who can play all 3 positions, so at this point it's not even thinking outside of the box, but stubbornness or ineptitude

I think you are asking too much from this coaching staff to think of things that will improve the team.
It is like the suggestion boxes at work or the surveys they do to improve the workplace or employee moral.
Nothing is truly ever done.

Perhaps they did in practice and didn't like what they saw? Or the players comfort level?

Probably a combination of things. They wanted Jaylon to get more reps, Wilson hasn't really cemented himself at the Sam yet and he also had the cloud hanging over him of getting suspended because of the road rage allegation. I wouldn't make a major move on the defense if it could all blow up in a day by the league suspending him.

There are times I ask myself what am I missing? There are instances where the team fails to see things that the fans are all over like a duck on a junebug and the fans are right. At those times I ask myself, assuming that the Cowboys coaches are not inept, why are they doing something that doesn't seem to make any sense.

Forcing the ball to Dez is one. Playing a hobbled Jaylon is another. Stubbornly refusing to draft or sign a true space eating 1 tech is another. Forcing the playing time of an ineffective Taco is another. Playing soft coverage by DBs and giving up easy short throws is yet another.

Assuming the coaching staff isn't totally inept (I'm not personally convinced Marinelli isn't a brain donor) it makes me wonder if they think Jaylon is getting pretty close physically, or at least making significant physical and mental improvement at a rapid pace. I guess you could surmise the same for Taco, although we aren't seeing any return on investment from him so far and he doesn't have injuries as an excuse.

As a side note, does anyone think Jaylon will play better with limited snaps?

Perhaps it was all the blown coverages, filling of the wrong gap, poor tackling, and lack of range?

They have more or less sat Wilsom because he has been bad this year.
