Why didn't they try Wilson at MLB?

Draft measurements:
Wilson: 6-0, 245
Hitchens: 6-0, 240
Lee: 6-2, 236

They really should have tried Wilson at MLB. They could have used Jaylon on the 15% of snaps where they use 3 LBs with Jaylon either playing SLB or Wilson moving to SLB on those snaps and Jaylon playing MLB.
He would have played great and Goodell would have suspended him. That's why.

I've been wondering the same thing that you are, Xwalker . . . it just seems to me that we're trying to justify drafting Jaylon in the 2nd round when he just isn't ready for so much playing time. Seems like they could have at least used Wilson to spell him but they didn't. Go figure. Hitchens will be sharing time with Jaylon, so they say. Too much too soon for JS. Here's hoping playing many less reps serves to help the youngster do better.

Wilson is bad in coverage and DAL wants it MIKE to be Urlacher..... even JSmith can never be that

Wilson is big enough to take on the running game head up and still can cover some TEs.... that is SAM all day

Same reason Bowman wasn't the savior everyone thought....... he got killed in coverage by Kelce and others last night

Wilson also struggles getting off blocks and the MIKE on this D needs to do this well because only the WILL is schemed to be uncovered.

Same reason they play Chaz at RG and Collins at RT. Because they have zero clue what they doing.

Wilson has struck me as a guy who probably is certainly not great but could be a pretty effective LB for us. I am also surprised they didn't try him at MLB.

They were afraid he was going to be suspended. Do you really want the leader of your defense to be under the threat of being suspended?

That's not the kind of guy that leads a franchise....

Have you really watched Wilson play?? He was a stud at Minny in college and fast, but it hasn't transferred to the NFL.

They could not put Green at RT because of he was unlikely to stay healthy. If they had done that they would now be scrambling to replace him. Imagine having to move Collins over there mid-sesson without practicing at RT in the preseason.

As a side note, does anyone think Jaylon will play better with limited snaps?
I don't think he will but I'm optimistic that he should be better next year, if he isn't better after next years preseason games, then cut him

Wilson is definitely better than Jaylon at this point.

He played reasonably well last season. Yes he has limited range in coverage but he just needed to be better than Jaylon which is a low bar.

Yes I have and he's better in space when when he's not swallowed up by blockers, trouble navigating thru the trash. He also reeks in man cover, a different player in zone when he can play downhill. Not a MIKE in this scheme.

I think people are piling on Jaylon a little too much.....Wilson has not palyed better than Smith imo

JSmith has made a ton of plays and has struggled with some of the calls but losing Hitch and Lee was huge

Have you really analyzed each snap Jaylon has played? The good/bad in the run game is obvious, but he has failed as the intended help defender on many pass plays and that's not obvious with a close review if the games.

They have had the CB Brown play outside leverage on many plays which requires inside help. The inside help has failed him often. The intended inside help defender on most of those plays has been Jaylon.

I just think he is overwhelmed and not overmatched

He went from sitting most of the preseason to starting MIKE

He will be fine if not a star in this league

Maybe, but Lewis is a rookie that missed training camp and he has been a top 3 player on the Cowboys defense. Jaylon had a full year to learn the scheme.

It seems that he learned to play with his previous physical ability. Now his physical ability is limited. It might still be good enough but he has not learned to play with his limitations.

For example:
If you run a 4.3 in college and now run 4.8, then you have to take different angles.
