Cowboys fans will cut anyone from Diggs to Parsons to Lamb just because they had one bad play in week 6 of a blowout game that we won

anyways if Lewis got cut I wouldnt be mad...I want to keep him but is he willing to be the 4th or split time with Bland? because he'd be a depth player (which we need) but is that the role hes willing to take?
I don’t think he’s done enough in this league to demand anything else. If anything, he’s in his final year and set to be a FA. He’ll be able to heal up and come along on his own time while being first man up in the case of an injury or in dime packages. Then next year, still in his relative prime, he can go starter role hunting. I doubt he has much trade value since he’s coming back from injury.

Guys understand this thing is a business. I doubt someone like him would be surprised that Bland is the starter at this point, especially coming off of such an injury.

I really don’t get it. We just saw how important CB depth was last year and now we want to cut a dependable vet CB?

Assuming he can return to form (obviously if he’s not the same guy this doesn’t apply), that gives us a 4 deep CB room that can withstand multiple injuries.

Mukuamu is not a full time CB, he’s a Swiss Army knife. Counting on him to step in and be a pure CB in the event of an injury is dicey. Joseph and Wright don’t inspire nearly enough confidence to cut Lewis, and Scott is a rook.

Y’all wanna go veteran dumpster diving in December if we have an injury? Did y’all not see how a lack of CB depth can greatly affect a defense? Is 4.7M of cap space we won’t use more important than having insurance and depth at an important position?

So many keep suggesting this as if the team is going to take 4M and bring back a stud. Lewis’s depth and vet dependability is much more valuable to us than 4M in savings.

If Bland gets hurt, who the heck is our starting slot CB? Without Lewis, we wouldn’t even have the slightest clue let alone be confident it won’t be an issue. Dude got injured on a sweet instinctual pick last season, he’s not great but he’s definitely got some game and experience. Cutting him makes little sense.
The thing is we didn't miss him at all when he got injured in week 6.

We have Gilmore this year and Bland has proven he can play. We also added Scott in the draft who deserves a roster spot.

They should hang onto Lewis for camp and preseason in case there are any significant injuries. If not, cutting him would allow us to save $5 million in cap space that we'll need to pay Lamb and Diggs.

We didn’t miss him? Are you serious? We signed 3 washed vets and cycled through the young guys in November/December. Do you not recall Joseph getting picked on in Jacksonville? That very well cost us the 1 seed. Do you not remember Wright’s play?

We didn’t “miss” him when AB was healthy. Once you lost him you are down to 2 dependable CB’s. It’s about depth. No you didn’t miss him when everyone was perfectly healthy behind him. That’s because we were 4 deep.

The “didn’t miss him” is literally solely due to having 4 competent CB’s. I’m pining for that same 4 quality CB’s, so yes I want to have what we had to start the year last year; 4 not three like you are suggesting.

Lewis being on the team has zero bearing on Eric Scott. He’s a 6th round developmental rookie, he will get a spot but he’s not anyone to count on at this point. I will 100000% make Wright and Joseph duke it out for the last CB spot. Cutting proven veteran depth for anyone on our depth chart below Lewis not named Eric Scott is nuts.

If we didn’t miss him, why the heck did we sign Mackensie Alexander, Trayvon Mullen, and Xavier Rhodes? Lewis is better than all three and would’ve been a Godsend after Brown went down. Diggs/Bland/Lewis would be much more solid than the ragtag CB3’s we were trying.

I've never been a big Lewis fan, but I don't think we should cut him. He must have been really good in college because I remember a lot of folks pushing for him early on. He isn't a marque CB, but he earns his paycheck.

It's about two things:

1) talk of DaRon Bland taking over Lewis's slot/3rd CB role
2) Lewis's 2023 dollar amount (5 million) and rants that we could've saved that 5 million.

Since we have the very promising Bland, there's the thought of we no longer need JLew and we can cut him and save money.

My thought is what if Bland gets hurt ? .. then we are down to the likes of Joseph, Wright ..and the option of having Israel Mukuamu move to 3rd CB/slot in an injury pinch.

Marginal cornerbacks coming off foot injuries usually don’t have great seasons but Lewis may surprise. He’ll be in a contract year, so maybe that will give him enough motivation.

It would be foolish to release him. Diggs, Gilmore, and Bland is a strong top 3, but I don't trust anyone behind that group outside of Lewis. Scott sounds like a promising prospect and I look forward to seeing his development, but what happens to this defense if we're looking at Joseph or Wright as a starter? What happened last season when Brown went down? It would be incredibly stupid to move on and save a few pennies when we already have $20m+ in available cap space.

Expensive contract for a 4th corner, but if you have the cap space and he recovers well I think it's worth it to keep an experienced corner around. He's competing with Joseph, Wright, and a couple of rookies for spots and unless he's not the same player I just don't think he gets pushed off.

Solid veteran at CB where you need several good players to make it thru the season, so it makes no sense to move Lewis unless DQ is really confident in Mukuamu, Joseph or Scott Jr.. Even outside of the young guys stepping up Lewis is a culture guy for the secondary, so it's hard to gauge his value outside the building.

Neither cap nor roster spots are unlimited. Bland's emergence and Gilmore's signing has dropped Lewis back to 4th in the rotation.
If Joseph or Wright show competence as a pure CB to back up the starters, that could be the end of Lewis. But so far, not. Lewis is still needed for depth across the board. Given what we've got, we still need him on the field, and that's assuming everyone is healthy.
Most likely he's here come the season. But ideally, you'd like to see Joseph, Wright, and Mukuamu progress to where we could move on.

They have a boat load of depth at slot corner and safety.

He likely is going on PUP anyway, but how far on the depth chart do you let a vet fall before you replace him completely? If Joseph or Scott knock him down to 5th on the depth chart you have to move on. He doesn't even play STs. That's a must for a backup corner. You also save $4.5 million.

They don't get how critical it is to have a solid stable of depth at CB. Versatility is also a huge benefit. Madden and fantasy football are turning fans minds into mush. I hope Lewis' foot will fully heal and he will be in camp.
