Why do fans say "focus on this upcoming game only" when we aren't players or coaches?

Speak for yourself. I know if I don't drink at least 6 beers during the game Dallas has no chance. I don't think ahead to the 8th or 9th beer when I am still working on the 3rd. Case in point, I only could drink 4 beers last game.

Every time someone posts a thread or comment about "Who do you want Dallas to face in the playoffs?" or "we might be able to get the No. 1 seed if Arizona slides a few games" there are always many posters who immediately respond, "Let's not get ahead of ourselves and lose focus. Let's concentrate on this upcoming game only. One week at a time. No distractions."

Which would make perfect sense if, you know, we were Cowboys coaches or players. But.....we're not. We're just fans typing on a message board.

Do people think that our distraction or lack of focus will somehow affect the Cowboys performance on the field? I can't see how. We could get way ahead of ourselves and even ask, "Bills or Titans, who do you want us to face in the Super Bowl?" and it wouldn't affect the Cowboys one bit.

Also probably a way of saying but not explaining well: "Just saw my team gets its #$*# kicked. I could care less about the future when a rebound game is so important."

Meh... just by spending time on a message board, you sort of negate the point of asking this. Around the world, through history, and all sports... Why do fans cheer for their team? Why do fans get so involved? Just a way of life. Peace.

It's a great point and a wierd behavior too.

The only reason I can fathom is the forum and it's threads take on a line of their own. If everyone starts taking wins and playoffs for granted and looking past the next game, the threads become nothing but hypotheticals that have been wrong for the last 25 years.

Groupthink makes all the threads utopian and almost sure to fail if the season ends like it has for the last quarter century

Posters are not trying to influence players and outcomes. They are trying to not let the forum become unrealistic.

we need to focus . see whats ahead .

Ole boy in that gif is a true professional...

because halfway through the season its just about impossible to pick who you may face if we make the playoffs. Theres just to much time left and way to many variables.
What happens if we lose half or more of our remaining games. What about injuries. How do you predict what will happen with other teams. 3 weeks ago we would have been talking about Buffalo and Az ( Kyler Murray is now out). then Green Bay (now Rodgers is out). We then lose badly to an average team and until we straighten out will fall in seeding. Rush was only a few plays away from losing and us having a 5-3 record or only 1 game over .500. What if Dak still does have calf problems/Smith stays out/ we lose another playmaker to injury. What if another team gets on a roll.
SB? we havent even locked a playoff spot yet
Wait until last 2-3 weeks of the season before a playoff picture starts coming into focus and you can have a meaningful conversation
It’s a message board. It’s for fun and discussion. None of it matters. It’s not to be taken seriously.

It’s like our opinion on politics or any other subject. The Internet has made everybody emotionally invested in having an opinion and an expert on every phase of life.

Yes and unfortunately the majority have the I.Q. of a turnip.

agree but how to do talk superbowl in week 8 when you've won nothing so far. In fact we looked awful against a .500 team with qb problems not to mention getting through playoffs which we haven't done in almost 30 years.

So what? Who cares? Does it matter? Does it hurt your feelings? Simply put, what’s your point?

How about Bellichek though…. Comical how people think this guy, who was clearly rebuilding, was being carried by Tom Brady. Got his team with no offensive weapons to 5-4…. 4-1 in the last five games..

does it hurt my feelings? no. am I hurt? no
again how can u talk superbowl when u havent won anything.
U want to talk how we would do against another team great-to say thats what the SB teams would be is just to early.

Why is it too early? It doesn’t mean anything. It’s just internet message board talk from fans. We’re 6-2. There’s only ONE team in the entire league with fewer losses. We should be in the conversation. The question is why does it bother you? How does any message board chatter negatively affect your life or anyone else’s for that matter?

1) Hypothetical conversations are pointless. For instance, what if Jerry and Jimmy never bumped heads? Pointless right?

2) A lot of fans are superstitious. If they changed their routine, the Cowboys will lose. Still some believe talking about the playoffs or Superbowl will put a hex on the team. So there are some conversations that fans don't want to have.
Me personally, don't talk about a certain player getting injured when that player is perfectly healthy. If it's week two and someone says Tyron's going to be injured at some point in the season. That's something I don't want to hear, because you'll talk it into existence. So yes I'm superstitious, but most people are.

noone is upset or thinks it will negatively affect anyones life. People are just saying its to early to talk SB. To many variables and playoffs are not a slam dunk.
see how the season goes-around week 14-15 u will see playoff talk start if the team continues to play well

Yes exactly bro! This is perfect so weird fans gripe about fans looking ahead like that matters at all.
