Why do fans say "focus on this upcoming game only" when we aren't players or coaches?

Every time someone posts a thread or comment about "Who do you want Dallas to face in the playoffs?" or "we might be able to get the No. 1 seed if Arizona slides a few games" there are always many posters who immediately respond, "Let's not get ahead of ourselves and lose focus. Let's concentrate on this upcoming game only. One week at a time. No distractions."

Which would make perfect sense if, you know, we were Cowboys coaches or players. But.....we're not. We're just fans typing on a message board.

Do people think that our distraction or lack of focus will somehow affect the Cowboys performance on the field? I can't see how. We could get way ahead of ourselves and even ask, "Bills or Titans, who do you want us to face in the Super Bowl?" and it wouldn't affect the Cowboys one bit.

Because some of us are couch coaches with nacho cheese all over our shirts .

because halfway through the season its just about impossible to pick who you may face if we make the playoffs. Theres just to much time left and way to many variables.
What happens if we lose half or more of our remaining games. What about injuries. How do you predict what will happen with other teams. 3 weeks ago we would have been talking about Buffalo and Az ( Kyler Murray is now out). then Green Bay (now Rodgers is out). We then lose badly to an average team and until we straighten out will fall in seeding. Rush was only a few plays away from losing and us having a 5-3 record or only 1 game over .500. What if Dak still does have calf problems/Smith stays out/ we lose another playmaker to injury. What if another team gets on a roll.
SB? we havent even locked a playoff spot yet
Wait until last 2-3 weeks of the season before a playoff picture starts coming into focus and you can have a meaningful conversation

Nothing fans can do outside of screaming at stadiums can impact this team.

Bottom line is this is entertainment and different fans enjoy looking at it differently, which I totally get.

For me, goal one is always to be in the playoff hunt so that the Thanksgiving game is meaningful, then it's make the playoffs, win the division, get a bye, win a playoff game, get to nfc championship, get to superbowl, win it all...I enjoy checking the boxes as they go through the season but I'm focused on what I enjoy, and get others have different entertainment goals as well

I’ve always said. I am a fan, I have the luxury of looking ahead. Just don’t look ahead crap Is ridiculous, in my opinion. I’m positive positive the franchise doesn’t. But you’re right we’re allowed to

because its the right thing.. makes zero sense trying to look so forward with nothing guaranteed at mid season.the falcons should be the only focus..

fan did that acted as if Denver would be cake walk. well it wasnt proves even more the next opponent is the only thing we should be discussing..

playoff positioning, byes, overall records penciling in wins and losses, such a waste of energy.one at a time,.

It’s fans thinking they mean more to the game then they do. Looking ahead should have nothing to do with this team or players.

Broncos 30 Cowboys 16. When fans start talking Super Bowl, the talking heads start talking Super Bowl. The players and coaches hear and read it all.
