Why do the Cowboys wait so long to sign players?

Do the Cowboys wait so long to sign players? Why isn’t Micah signed? I just don’t get the purpose. It seems to be a distraction the Cowboys do not need. Would it not be preferable to have Parsons in OtAs now?
New Cowboys fan?

"Deadlines makes deals." - Jerry Jones

Like anyone here knows the answers? The only ones who know are the Joneses.

They most likely feel it does not matter, nor increases the contract.
I think it is just a fan perception and myth believing by waiting it cost more.

Well with our new culture and team building, maybe it'll rub off on Jerry one day

The players have agents.

This was discussed in some detail yesterday on Hangin with the Boys. “I’m all about me Holley” said he was told by Jeff Cavanaugh that the reason they wait so long is due to the fact that they want to keep that money in the bank as long as possible to earn as much interest as possible. When you have almost 18 billion green backs you have a lot of power with banks negotiating and interest earned is in the millions. Jerry has spoken directly to Parson’s earlier this year and Jones has even said that Parson’s has a contract. He just hasn’t signed it yet. So maybe there’s something to this speculation.
I think Jerry was referring to the fact Parsons is under contract for a fifth year. He isn’t going to play on it, of course. In any case, an unsigned new contract is not a contract.

...because its so much money involved .Notice the small deals get done quickly.

Personally, I would be on the fence with Micah. I like the guy and he's good football player. But he's no Aaron Donald or LT.

Yet, he's going for big cash grab. If they decided not to keep him on. KC, Philly, Wash or SF....would grab him.

Rock and hard place for Jerry & Co.

I think Jerry would rather pay that $150M check out of league TV money than dip into his own pocket or the teams revenue.
The team is worth 10 billion and Jerry alone is worth 17. Jerry writing a check for $150 mil is like us grabbing a handful of quarters out of our piggy banks. I highly doubt he is concerned about the money or where it comes from.

It’s not about net worth it’s about cash on hand. Jerry isn’t going to sell off assets to extend a player under contract when he can just wait on the revenue sharing checks to come in. I wouldn’t underestimate the business side of Jerry and Stephen.

According to Jerry, he takes so much time to make decisions because he wants to be sure it's not a mistake. That's straight from the horse's mouth. (Just a scary notion that haunts old folks.)

It was reported that they have already agreed on the dollars and the years. If that’s the case, then it would explain him not doing much in the OTA’s when he does show.

Micah Parsons has not agreed to an extension, nor even a tentative understanding of dollars or years, with the Cowboys. There has never been a report that he has.
