Why do we have a Fullback?

When was the last time we had a FB as a lead blocker like E. Smith had with Moose Johnston? That empty set running crap is not working out worth a damn all Elliott does is go backwards half the time. I'd like to see that style of football once more and Garrett is an bozo because he was part of that offense with E. Smith and Moose.

It's the old "Lead Draw" play of the 90's.

Jerry and Garrett are stuck in the good old days. It's become more of a passing league and we continue to run the same old offense.

How about using Olawale as a lead blocker for Dak to run a draw on 2nd and 2? Gives you an extra blocker with Dak running and mixes things up.

I am still waiting for some of the creativity we were promised when they promoted Moore.

They did have Cobb throw an incomplete pass.

Odd thing was that Keith Smith was the better blocker and also had value on STs.
We traded/let him go to Oakland.

It's like they fell in love with a niche trait of Jamie's, his speed/ball handling abilities, but overlook he can't block as a fullback. Then the kicker is they rarely use him to catch or run the ball, and the few times they have gone his way he either has dropped it or it wasn't a catchable ball.

This past draft class had a few traditional fullbacks. Alec Ingold and Chandler Cox to name two. Both also got the ball in college, with Ingold doing well rushing in Wisconsin.

Ingold beat out Smith in Oakland.

Would like to have that Develin, Sherman, Leach*, type of smashmouth FB.

We've seen it this year, but very sparingly. Olawale has more than twice the special teams snaps that he does offensive snaps.

It pop'd in my mind last night. I was like "The Vikes used their FB to a great impact, why are we not putting him (if he exists) there to help Zeke?"

I don't know anymore .. One thing is sitting solid in my mind .. new coaching staff is needed

I asked the same question. our run game wasn't working, we stuck to our plans. we should have had a few plays, with FB as a lead blocker. if you are going to run no matter what. and they are stopping you, then put another body in there and force the issue.

Yet both have better records and average about the same or better PPG.
So? Neither offense is as good, not even close.

It's simple. Take away the run for the Vikes or 9ers, and they aren't good enough to win with the passing game. Take it away for Dallas, and you have Sunday night. PPG is a poor measurement.

We can't even figure out ways to use the highest paid RB in football. What hope do we have for mixing a scrub full back into the equation.

we didn't trade keith smith, ... we let him go in FA, that ended up being only a 200,000K difference than what he signed on with Raiders.
Coincidentally we panicked and then traded with the Raiders to acquire their FB Jamele Olawuze (sp) as we were told he can do it all (run, catch, block) as well
as contribute on special teams.

So? I thought the object of the game was to score more points and get wins...

And if its so easy to take away their run game why didn't we do it, or every team for that matter.
PPG is not a good measurement? I assume you'd rather go with yards...

There's more than one way to skin a cat - and the Boys pretty stats aint doing it.

Another question: I thought they drafted Pollard because he was supposed to be good at returns.......where is he?
