Why do we permit users to intentionally cause disharmony on this board?

May I make a suggestion?

Make the ignore feature easier to find.
Actually that is a very good suggestion and I will address it.

Isn't that redundant? Like saying an Orc Goblin? A Black Rider Ringwraith? A crow raven? A Duregar Dwarf? A Wizard Sorcerer? An Idiot Commander?

Again, the ignore feature isn't particularly useful in resolving the issue. Take the following conversation:

Topic: I think the Boys look good this year because of X, Y, and Z

Troll: "OMG HAVE YOU HEARD MY VIEW ON TOPIC A?!!?! A IS THE BEST AND WE SUCK BECAUSE WE DO B :laugh1: "

Poster A: "Quote: Troll "OMG HAVE YOU HEARD MY VIEW ON TOPIC A?!!?! A IS THE BEST AND WE SUCK BECAUSE WE DO B :laugh1: " "Here we go again"

Poster B: "Quote: Troll "OMG HAVE YOU HEARD MY VIEW ON TOPIC A?!!?! A IS THE BEST AND WE SUCK BECAUSE WE DO B :laugh1:" "You are wrong. Here are the facts.

Poster C: "Quote: Troll "OMG HAVE YOU HEARD MY VIEW ON TOPIC A?!!?! A IS THE BEST AND WE SUCK BECAUSE WE DO B :laugh1:" What are you smoking? :bang2:

Troll: "WHATEVER YOU GUYS DONT KNOW. CLEARLY I A M RITE! :lmao2: "

Poster B: "Quote: Troll "WHATEVER YOU GUYS DONT KNOW. CLEARLY I A M RITE! :lmao2:" Did you not read the stats I cited?

etc....

Having the troll on ignore doesn't do any good when they are causing the disruption because it devours the discussion. And when the problem is not localized and the troll starts bringing it up in tangentially related threads, all of the sudden the topic is derailed.

Ignoring the comments of one doesn't do any good when they cause the very chain reaction they are intending to cause.

Let's not...

I don't mean to argue the point or the policy.

However I disagree with this approach. Most recommendations for dealing with trolls suggest that they be ignored -- if users know who others are ignoring, that would go a long way to solving the problem board-wide.

If the best way to deal with a troll is to limit that troll's audience then knowing who others are defining as trolls would help all of us use the ignore option more effectively.

I am wondering why we permit users to intentionally cause disharmony for the sake of their own agendas.

This is a good board with lots of strong content.

But certain users have obvious agendas and create substance-free posts just to start fights.

I am thinking of one user in particular who has tried to make about 10 threads in the last week about Quincy Carter. That guy doesn't play for our team and hasn't played for us for almost three years. There is absolutely no reason for people to be making posts about him unless they are trying to push their agenda or start fights, which not surprisingly always happens.

I don't understand why the mods permit this kind of action.

This is a great board, but it is a community too. I don't see why certain people should be permitted to slap at the community for their own purposes.

I am not sure if this is the best place to bring it up, but I think it should be addressed. I don't know what other way to bring it to discussion.
Did you ever go to the DMN forum?

One persons troll is another person's hero.

I've been playing quite a bit of Neverwinter Nights lately and reading Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series.

IOW... I've been completely nerding out lately!

If the other person is also a troll. :lmao2: These post by and large do not bother me some I will address others I'll pass but the freedom of posting your thoughts (within reason) is what makes this site a great one

Sure -- but if we could get some sort of list of the top 10-20 ignored users that would help folks who are bothered to decide who to ignore.

Honestly, I see this sort of accounting as a good way to address the issue. The board isn't deciding to ban or get rid of someone -- just making information about who other posters have found annoying available.

At least the moderators allow you to have an opinion here and typically don't allow it to erupt in a full fledged disaster.

I've been to other boards where its a bannable offense to disagree with the mods. In most cases, they are too cowardly to deal with someone who actually disagrees with them. They'd rather ban you and have a happy little band of sycophants. How interesting is that?

Some of the best discussion I have is with people I disagree with the most.

Hold your tongue and quit argueing. :p:

Note to self : Stop pissing off Zone members and suggest the ignore button for the entire board be placed under SPunks av.....................

I don't mind the "instigators" too much I guess. Adds a little something to the nothing of the offseason. Seems it to be as of last years level or so. It does seem to be interrupting the "ebb and flow" of the Zone as of late. Ignoring won't be fool proof <pun intended> if a thread gets hijacked or whatever. I dunno. Good luck Mods and may the force be with you.

I don't mind individuals who excite trollistic fights, we just can't get overly emotional about this sport.

There are certain subjects on specific players that I refuse to enter that thread, because I pretty much know what they will be talking about, and I dont' want to hear it, trying not to get into a fight, because I know I will.
