CowboysZone LOYAL Fan
Something else to think about is, it's the off season right now...and Cowboy fans are just itching for something to get emotional about! They need something to talk about, something to whet their appitites.

Also, I agree with cobra that some here just come to infest the board with nonsense! And, what better way to do that then talk about....QUINCY CARTER! :laugh2:

I also think that I know the poster(s) cobra is referring too, and I have asked them many, many times what they expect to gain by their stupid posts. They never answer me...they avoid that question like the plague! So, there has to be something else...and I suspect that I know what it is...

Also, you have to take into account that not all posters are adults and really, maybe, don't even realize what they are doing? Who knows....?

All in all, I blame it on WG for being so sexy looking that she brings out the worse in all of us boys! You want to MOD this site properly? Hire ugly women, get rid of the old folks like that other MOD, stop MODs from having names of alcohol, and PLEASE hire some MODs that don't have crossed eyes! I cannot believe everyone is so Hostile!

Voltaire didn't say or write that quote.

At least the moderators allow you to have an opinion here and typically don't allow it to erupt in a full fledged disaster.

I've been to other boards where its a bannable offense to disagree with the mods. In most cases, they are too cowardly to deal with someone who actually disagrees with them. They'd rather ban you and have a happy little band of sycophants. How interesting is that?

Some of the best discussion I have is with people I disagree with the most.

You're an idiot and that's why we banned you!

Oh wait, I'm not a mod there anymore.

Forgot I got de-modified for not being one of the sheep.

What he said.

Maybe we can create a "CFL Zone" and talk about Quincy Carter in that forum. (Plus, it would allow us to also discuss Billy Davis, Jermaine Copeland, John Avery, Kenyon Rambo, and all the other "skill players" :)lmao2: ) acquired during the the Campo/Lacewell era. )

Just a suggestion...:D

I'm always surprised at some of the obvious trolls the mods let slip, but I have a hard time being angry about it because of the huge allowance for freedom of speech. Like others have said, some message boards will go overboard trying to silence dissent. (See Extremeskins :) ) Some trolls are funny, some even bring up original ideas, but sometimes it does get annoying. That new guy TheAnswer would be an example. Talks about himself in the 3rd person, brings up Drew Bledsoe as god, all tired stuff that has been done by other trolls. I wouldn't worry about it. Most of the fellas that cause disharmony have a tendency to eventually get themselves banned. You make enough enemies, the mods will take notice.

For what it is worth and to whom it may concern I have been a Cowboy fan since I can remember. I only go to one Cowboy forum and this is it. When I come here I like to be able to get as much info as possible. For me, this is a good forum, and well moderated. The only real low point are the bickering threads based on insults. If you could limit them it help. Either way I will always read and get my info here.

Actually, I've never liked trolls from any fandom either! They disrupt the flow of football dialogue and create harsh feelings among posters engaged i stimulating discUssion.
I've spent quality time here at the Zone ZoneZone. One does not necessarily have to be a troll to be an opponent fan posting here at the Zone. That's one of the great things I've enjoyed about posting and calling myself a member here at the Zone. Differences of opinion can also be misconstrued as disruptive and can create dissention when both sides have strong perspectives. However, poster maturity is a characteristic that allows posters to enjoy stimulating dialogue, despite those different perspectives.

Caution: One thing that I've observed on other franchise MBs (like WG said "let's not go there"), is that there are also such a thing as homer-trolls. A homer-troll is a home MB fan that usually stays in wait for an opponent fan to engage in a dialogue ...then launches out with comments that will provoke an undiplomatic response from the opponent fan that otherwise was never intended. Once engaged with the homer-troll(s) it's usually a lost cause and the thread usually crashes and burns, as other home fans naturally join in.

As an opponent fan here, I try to respect the Home MB guidelines and how to conduct myself in public discussion. The guidelines here poiint out clearly, that if someone questions or disagrees with what I've said, they can send a private message (PM) to any of the staff members to discuss it privately--I have never received such a pm from another member.

That said, I've never intentionally targeted any of the discussions with malice intent. To the contrary, I've learned more at the Zone, and about football saavy, trivia, and history, than all but one other MB.

I think evryone on all MBs have an obligation to pluck out disruptive posters; not limited to any particular fandom affiliation.

I have a rather simplistic perspective to offer....

I am amazed that people take the bait as often as they do.

Sometimes it's pretty clear that someone will post a thread or a comment in order to provoke responses....and many people dive in...head first.

It's kinda like "Doc it hurts every time I do this"

Doctor: "Well, then, do don't it"

Don't take the bait..If you don't take the bait, the behavior will self extinguish OR become SO obvious in an attempt to get a response, that the member will, in effect, ban themselves...with the help of a moderator, of course. :D

But if not heeded by all....sometimes pointless.

Again, the ignore feature isn't particularly useful in resolving the issue. Take the following conversation:

Topic: I think the Boys look good this year because of X, Y, and Z

Troll: "OMG HAVE YOU HEARD MY VIEW ON TOPIC A?!!?! A IS THE BEST AND WE SUCK BECAUSE WE DO B :laugh1: "

Poster A: "Quote: Troll "OMG HAVE YOU HEARD MY VIEW ON TOPIC A?!!?! A IS THE BEST AND WE SUCK BECAUSE WE DO B :laugh1: " "Here we go again"

Poster B: "Quote: Troll "OMG HAVE YOU HEARD MY VIEW ON TOPIC A?!!?! A IS THE BEST AND WE SUCK BECAUSE WE DO B :laugh1:" "You are wrong. Here are the facts.

Poster C: "Quote: Troll "OMG HAVE YOU HEARD MY VIEW ON TOPIC A?!!?! A IS THE BEST AND WE SUCK BECAUSE WE DO B :laugh1:" What are you smoking? :bang2:

Troll: "WHATEVER YOU GUYS DONT KNOW. CLEARLY I A M RITE! :lmao2: "

Poster B: "Quote: Troll "WHATEVER YOU GUYS DONT KNOW. CLEARLY I A M RITE! :lmao2:" Did you not read the stats I cited?

etc....

Having the troll on ignore doesn't do any good when they are causing the disruption because it devours the discussion. And when the problem is not localized and the troll starts bringing it up in tangentially related threads, all of the sudden the topic is derailed.

Ignoring the comments of one doesn't do any good when they cause the very chain reaction they are intending to cause.
How about ignoring the thread altogether. That should solve your crisis.

Sage advice I'd say.

One of the reasons I have always reckoned myself a messageboard lurker for the most part has to do with the ease with which a loudmouth can derail a thread. Someone will post a perfectly good thread and for the most part I will give it 10 posts or less before someone louder more abnoxious and usually with a heck of alot less to say will derail and make that thread his own for some tired, emotion envoking agenda that has been played out over and over again. I guess it's human nature to listen to the loudest rooster toot his own horn, but it doesn't make it any less annoying. If you like a threads content, I say do yourself a favor and don't let the loudest guy on the block direct the boards attention, save that honor for the guy who has something substantive to say.
