Why do you like the Star? Why do you like the Cowboys?

What is it exactly about the Cowboys that you like?

For me, it was really about two people. My Dad and Tom Landry. It was just great to come home from church on Sundays in Dallas, and spend that time cheering and hollering around the TV. Building traditions with your Dad is just something you can't replace.

Tom Landry was a shining example of character, and a strong Christian, which made him all the more likeable. Leading a team with national attention and always seeming to be the underdog, it was great to watch those teams. There were bad apples on the Cowboys in those years, but the leader of the team was above reproach. His leadership was unparallelled in the league. And that's why the Cowboys were not just the local team, but the good guys.

You couldn't help but love the Cowboys in those days. That's what the Dallas Cowboys star symbolizes to me. That's why I thought the Cowboys were special. And they were.

While some of those special qualities have diminished over the years, through various changes and just becoming less naive about the real reason players play, it just helps to remember what really matters about the game, the principles of teamwork and joy of watching real drama unfold. Competition, respect for players, coaches, and team is what it's all about. Getting a win is big, but leaving the fundamentals of the sport behind can tarnish a win.

Before I go any further, I want to know. What do you like about the Cowboys, what do you want your children to like about the Cowboys? Why do you like the Star?

Best Uniforms in the NFL, perhaps professional sports.
Classy men throughout a bountiful history.
I'm a native Texan.
They are winners by tradition which makes losing all the more unacceptable.
They summon passion for better or worse as a galvanizing force in sports unlike anyone else which is probably an accurate description of this country on a world stage thus making them a perfect fit to be dubbed "America's Team".

Oh sorry, yes I'm born in Texas, I thought when you capitalized Native that you were incinuating some Native American heritage, I read far too much into it, I apologize.

I was nine and I remember watching the Cowboys with my dad. I remember him being so happy when they beat the Dolphins in the Super Bowl and I remember him crying when they lost to the Steelers the first time. I also remember being romanced me even more to this franchise when the announcer would say Roger Staubach's name and the Dallas Cowboys on "This is the NFL" tv show. The way Too Tall Jone's name would sound coming through the TV would carry me to the playground full of energy to play some football. Infact, the way the music would play in the backround while the game recaps were on would send chills down my spine. It still does as well.

The Star(s) is symbolic of these great United States. As for the Lone star State...San Antonio, was my first State of employment. Plainview Texas (West Texas, close to Loredo) was where I achieved two academic degrees from the Great Wayland Baptist University. Dated a judge in Austin, Texas ...she gave me the keys to Austin ...well at least her house.

It's difficult to dislike a team that patriotically carries the Star? Much like the Patriots, and oh yeah the Eagles ...they all carry logos of our great nation. Here's my point ...
